a quick update

(the longer between posts, the more to update, and the more intimidating the task....)

anyway.

my younger son, Jesse, has completed Coast Guard basic training and has reported to his first ship, the USCGC Midgett, out of Seattle. i've heard nothing since he reported, other than they don't sail until March. seems like a long time, and i'm sure he's disappointed to have to wait so long (he was expecting to head off in January). i went out last weekend to be with him for graduation -- he played in the recruit band, which was cool -- and then we spend the weekend in Baltimore (yuk) and DC (cold & lovely). (i spent 3 hours Thursday evening in NYC -- wow. i am moving there someday for a year. what a place.) we flew back here on Monday, so i'm back to work. our busiest time of the year, so really cranking.

the election was beyond awesome. of course the Obama victory was amazing. i was a very early backer, campaigning with a small group of people on the streets in the summer 0f 2007; however, in 2008, my time & energy went to electing Oregon House candidates (Barack had more than enough supporters without me) and we won great victories here. got some great people into our Leg, so 2009 should be a great opportunity to fix stuff the wingnuts here spent nearly 20 years fucking into the dust.

Alex, my older son, is in Bend, kind of biding his time til he leaves to prep for Iraq (and/or Afghanistan) -- and jesus, it's still surreal to write of him going there.

got me some new toys this year. a great bike, a Sony A350 slr i still barely know how to use, and a Canon video cam (my speciality with that is not recording when i think and i, and vice versa). i'll post url's to pictures later. toys were courtesy of my mom & her husband; she died 3 years ago & Bob went earlier this year, so the kids got some money and i tried to use mine well. such as going to be with Jesse for his CG bt grad.

anyway, not much happening other than that. i am usually pretty whacked when i get home, and my weekends are usually either full or sleepy. i hope all is well -- with all.
