;dasfkjs;dlkja;ld;kf T__T THIS PAGE.AND THIS ONETHAT SMILE ;sdlfkjas;ldkjasldk T___T KAKASHIIIIIIIIIIIIII;___________________; I also have to say, this is fucking ridiculously beyond amazing. This characterization of Kakashi is EXACTLY the way I have always,
always envisioned Kakashi to be. The things Kishimoto has Kakashi focusing on/remembering -- what he said to Sakura on the roof that day, his own failings as a teacher, his guilt and sense of responsibility towards Sasuke, the things he said to Sasuke too -- these are all the things I think are most important/relevant about Kakashi and what makes him a compelling character for me. While many people like to focus on the more overt nuances of the character, such as the fact that he's a pervert who walks around and reads porn, what I find most interesting about Kakashi are the subtle nuances about him, about the way he interacts with the rest of the world, and how he perceives himself and his relationships to others.
I don't see him as self-righteous as many people seem to think he is, I don't think he so easily judges Sasuke for his actions, so much as he feels much of what has happened to Sasuke is largely because of him and his own failings as a teacher. So he can't judge Sasuke too harshly -- at the end of the day, he has to judge himself, and his own failings. He also has to recognize the fact that he's lost Sasuke, and now he has to fight against him in one last effort to save what he has already lost. I believe Kakashi doesn't think he'll survive the fight -- this is why he tells Sakura to get out of there, so he can face Sasuke alone in this battle. And though he will seriously fight Sasuke, I don't think he'd actually be able to have it in him to kill his own student, even if he tries his hardest to.
The fight will either end in two ways: 1. Sasuke kills Kakashi, or 2. Madara intervenes and gets Sasuke the hell out of there.
Either of these options are plausible. As a big KakaSasu shipper, the implications of Kakashi dying at Sasuke's hands is heartbreaking, but something I have always expected. This is actually one of the themes I continuously repeat in much of my own writing -- Kakashi somehow sacrificing, or ready to sacrifice, himself in some way, if he thinks or believes it might actually somehow save Sasuke or help him atone for his own failings as a teacher. In Illuminating Heaven, Kakashi does this twice -- once in a genjutsu, and the second when he saves Sasuke when he goes blind. In "Letting Go," Kakashi sacrifices something else -- he gives himself to Sasuke, because it's what Sasuke needs.
In the upcoming chapters of Naruto, I don't think Kakashi will go down as easily without a fight. He certainly isn't going to just let himself get killed, but at the same time he recognizes that Sasuke is an extreme threat to Konoha, and as the acting Hokage, it is his duty to protect the village. And if that means that he has to face down his own student, then that is what it will have to be. However, he stated very clearly, that he does not want to kill Sasuke. Which means he will be facing Sasuke without killing intent.
Anyway, this is all very exciting and even if Kakashi dies in the course of this (which I hope he doesn't, but I know it's very possible, given the kind of scenario we have here), I'm really glad Kakashi gets his chance to confront Sasuke, which in a way, is confronting his own failings.
Edit: I lied. There is a third thing that may happen here. Naruto might show up, though it seems too early for a Naruto vs Sasuke showdown.
