Chapter 6
“Be gentle.
Fill yourself up with love instead of hate. Fill yourself up with art, books, knowledge, experiences. Surround yourself with people who have nothing but love to give.
These things are important. They will help you learn how to love.”

For Jun, weekends nights were the worst. Because his dad would sit with his mom and him at the table. And it didn’t matter how hard he tried to suck up anything his dad said, it didn’t matter how hard his mom tried to calm thing down, they would always end up fighting and Jun would locked himself inside his room, smocking a cigarette, lying in the floor wishing to whoever was looking down from the sky to please not let him become someone like his dad.
That afternoon things were looking good. His dad talked to him a couple of times, with no venom in his words, just questions about school and grades. He even posed his hand on his shoulder each time he came to his room to talk with Jun. For that reason Jun was hopeful that tonight’s meal would be a peaceful one.
“Jun, I just got a call from an old classmate from S university” Jun faked interest, he wanted a peaceful meal, more than anything “He has an important job there, and he already secured me a room for you, with your grades they really don’t care about that stupid hobby you have” Jun felt dull for have at least a bit of hope “Dad, I’m not interested on going to S university”
“And why is that? Is one of the best private universities from Japan, a lot of our most recognized politicians came from that university” Jun dropped his fork in the table, the dinner was already over for him “Because I don’t want to be formed by fascists as the ones that teach there, all those politicians that you talk about, are people without ideals or values, people with no ideas or desire to change anything, they go there just so they can learn new ways to make money, and politics is the best way, you should now it better”
“Of course I now it better, otherwise how could you be leaving in a house like this one uh?!, what do you know about ideals and values when you have none, what can a kid like you know uh?”
“I can assure you dad that I know more, because I haven’t been rotten yet, because as you said, I’m still a kid” His dad temples were already red, his hands fisted and his voice was far away from the soft one that talked to him that afternoon “Grow up! Realize that this fantasy you’re living is nothing more than that, a cute fairy fantasy. Step down and face reality, you need a good background, from a good university, so you can make good money, and give your family everything they need as I did”
“What family are you talking about? That word doesn’t fit with what we have here, our family stopped being one when you kick out my sister, the day she left to England”
”Jun stopped this now or you will be the next!” Jun stood up, hitting the table with both hands and looking at his father with an hostile expression “I will be glad” He leaved a kiss in his mom’s head, who was looking down at the table, and walked outside the house. The last thing he heard was his father saying ‘Careful with what you wish’.
He was so full of rage. He didn’t remember when his father changed. His first memories are about a kind man, who would pick him up from the floor and spin him around. A man who would talk to him calmly, who was not afraid to hug him. Slowly he started to work more, to come back from work with a sour expression, that later turned in to a wry expression. After that everything went down hill. His sister was the first one who gave up. After falling in love with a foreign, who was not approved by his dad, she left, after a horrible fight were his dad made really clear that he didn’t had a daughter anymore. She leaved promising Jun that it didn’t matter how bad things would look, sooner or later the string would gave up and he would be able to speak out his thoughts.
Turn in to a Yankee wasn’t Jun’s way to get back at his father. It just happened that his senpais at Shirokin had the same ideals as him. And fast he was drown in to that dynamic. He wasn’t just a rebel. He was the leader from school. Each time one of his classmate was under suspect from something that he didn’t do, Jun would come up in his rescue, each time a teacher was being too abusive he would stood up, he tried to do so with politeness, but sometimes it wasn’t good enough. And he also had a temper, so peaceful agreements weren’t his speciality.
The fights came later. He didn’t look for them. Other groups would come to his school looking for fight, the first time he pretty much hid behind his senpais. He hated it, so he asked them to train him. The second time he already knew how to have a clean one-on-one fight. And the first time his fist landed in that guy’s cheek, he felt nothing but relieve. It hurt, of course, but at the same time, he could release all that frustration pilling up inside him. Then his senpais finished school and they named him as the new leader. There was no turning point there.
He wished he could meet with a couple of his opponents, so he could through some rage out from his system. One punch, just one. But the streets were empty, something really common in his suburb. Just some old ladies coming back from the temple and groups of young girls in their way to some sleep over. He walked a couple of streets until he reached the shore of the river. It wasn’t that cold, and the sound of the water could calm him down. It wasn’t too crowded. A man walking his dog, a couple of guys playing catch ball, and Asuka getting in to her bike. Suddenly Jun didn’t need to punch someone anymore. He craved for something different.
Asuka could only pedal one time until she realized who was staring at her. And there was something in Jun’s face that made her stop, get down from the bike and run in to his direction. “Matsumoto-kun, something happened?” Asuka was far away from keeping that ignorance façade, there was something in Jun’s look, something happened to him, and she was worried, she had to do something “I’m sorry Kayano, I’m so sorry if I hurt you, I wasn’t protecting you from me, but from what could happen to you just because you are close to me, I didn’t meant evil telling you those words, tell me that you understand that”
”I do, I know why you did it…Matsumoto-kun, what happened? Let me give you a hand” With no hesitation Asuka’s hands move up to frame Jun’s face. Her hands carded through his hair and slowly she pulled him closer to her, until his back bent down and he could rest his head in Asuka’s shoulder. Slowly all sign of rage leaved Jun’s body. Without the need of hitting someone he felt relieved again. Asuka’s arms were thin but strong, and the warmth eradiating from her body reached his own and finally he allowed himself to pass his arms around Asuka’s body, pulling her closer to him. Asuka felt as if her ribs were about to break. Jun’s grip was tight, desperate, and he knew it but that was how he felt it like something real. Asuka didn’t complained, she didn’t cared about what happened before between the two of them, she didn’t care about who was around, she just kept hugging him, caressing his nape, repeating it’s alright next to his ear. And Jun believed her, because it was alright. It hasn’t been this alright since a while ago.
Jun slowly started to loose his grip. He was able to take a deep breath for once. Her eyes were looking at him with care, and her hand didn’t leaved Jun’s frame. He really didn’t deserve that care, but at the same time he will not gave it away to anyone. Jun lifted his hand up along the girl’s side, up along her shoulder and neck, his fingers barely skimming the fine cotton of her t-shirt. He leaned over, moved in to her space, taking her oxygen by covering her mouth with his own. Asuka melted in to him, thoughtlessly, touching Jun’s cheekbones with care and tasting the recovery on his lips. Their mouths moved against one another, and they fit, no matter which angle they were put together in. Asuka moved her mouth away so she could gain some air, but Jun kept kissing the corners of her lips “I know that you think that I’m some kind of delicate lady, but I’m not. I don’t want you to be soft with me” Jun look around with a rather petulant face, something that made Asuka feel strangely aroused. Jun was glad to realize that there was no one around them, he grabbed Asuka’s nape, curling an arm around her waist, pulling her harshly against him. She inhaled sharply and waited until he kissed her with an expression so cute that made Jun weak in the knees. And they were kissing again, with a slow pace, but definitely more passionately than before. Asuka sank her hands in Jun’s hair, almost clinging to his body. That amused Jun, the smile upon his face grew wider, making it hard for him to kiss her. He pulled back, but didn’t let her go yet “Kayano, you’re too good for me” She leaved a soft kiss in Jun’s lips, because she has being waiting for a long time to do it and now she couldn’t stop herself “I’m not”
”Yes you are, but you’re too good for anyone, so I’m going to keep you for myself” Asuka had to blushed with that, more than she already was, her voice shied out when she spoke and her eyes looked at anywhere else but Jun’s face “Ok” Jun moved her head, forcing her to look at him again “Somebody like you could really make things alright for me…Asuka” Jun kissed her briefly, trying to calm down, it was already late, and someone could pass by them, but it didn’t work out very well, Jun was pulled again in to a kiss, but how could he resist when Asuka’s mouth felt so warm and sweet under his. A soft moan leaved her mouth, and Jun realized that she could be slightly dangerous.
When they resurfaced from the kiss, Asuka took half a step back to look at Jun, he could see the corner of her eyes crinkling and a big triumphant smile forming in her lips, he had to pinch her cheek to make it disappear. She hold her hand up, brushing apprehensively Jun’s face “Are you going to tell me what happened?” Jun released a long sigh, resting his face in her hand “My dad, we got in to a fight and that always leaves me filled with anger”
“But you didn’t looked mad, you looked sad”
“Yeah, that too, I hate it” Asuka framed Jun’s face with both of her hands, he was surprised of how easily he accepted her touch “It’s alright, what were you doing here anyway? You also looked kind of lost”
“I was looking for someone to hit” He said with a shrug of his shoulders “You still want to hit someone? I have some classmates that could take some punches”
“No, I’m not mad or sad anymore, although if those classmates have messed with you, I could consider hitting them” Jun moved Asuka’s hands away from his face, but kept a hold of one of them. He wanted to pick up her bike and walked her home, but Asuka stopped him from do so “Matsumoto-kun, what now? Are you going to continue keeping me away from you in order to protect me?”
“I’ll keep protecting you, but up close, where my eyes can see you…so…should I ask you out or something?” Asuka hid her smile turning around to pick up her bike and came back to stand next to Jun “You already know my answer”
“Sure I do” Jun brought his grin down to her lips for a last kiss.
“Matsumoto-kun, what did your dad said that made you that mad?” Jun took the first step and Asuka followed him “Well, he always makes me mad, but this time it was worst because he recognize what a fail he is and he didn’t care…and also he told me that he got me a spot at S university”
“But S university is horrible, all their students are douche bags”
“I know” without thinking about it Jun passed his arm around Asuka’s shoulders, pulling her closer to his body, hearing her voicing out his own thoughts made him feel like he loved her a bit more “Then where do you wanna go?”
“Well, I like D university, they have great teachers and installations” Asuka slightly jumped under his grip “Me too! What do you wanna study there?”
“I’m not sure yet, but I like social sciences, what about you Kayano?”
“I want to be a curator, I’m planning on study history of art and than do a master in modern art” Jun’s grip got a little bit more tighter and Asuka rested against his body “Well, you have everything sorted out, I’m not surprised” She only nodded and kept walking next to Jun in silence.
They soon reached Asuka’s house. She parked her bike outside her door and walked back to Jun “Well, I guess this is a goodbye Matsumoto-kun”
“I guess so, have a nice night” Asuka walked closer grabbing Jun’s hands and dropping a loving kiss on his cheek “You too” She turned around and walked inside her house. Jun stared the closed door until his legs decided to work again.
Asuka’s mom was drinking a coffee in front of the TV when she arrived. Asuka stopped in the door frame, coming back to reality in a way, planning in her mind how to tell her mom she was now dating Jun. But between the two of them, true was always the best option “Mom, I have to tell you something” Asuka tried to look serious but that dumb smile refused to leave her face. Her mom turned around immediately, giving her daughter all her attention.

Jun reached Aiba’s house really fast. Probably because he jumped his way back rather than walk. Going back to his home wasn’t an option, especially now that he had something to be happy about. He would text his mom from Aiba’s cell phone just so she could be calm, but no one will kill his night tonight.
As always, Aiba’s parents received him with words of affection and told him to come in, Aiba was in his room. He didn’t knock, he just open the sliding door and found Aiba in front of the TV with the light off “Were you masturbating?” Asked Jun making fun of his friends “No! I was watching this animal show and man, those poor pandas had such a hard time” Jun turned off the TV and sat next to Aiba, drinking the last drops of beer from his can “Oh poor pandas, but hey I have something that will cheer you up”
“What is it?!” Aiba excitement and curiosity showed immediately in his eyes “I’m dating Kayano” Aiba almost climbed in top of his friend from pure joy “WHAT!? You kidding? No?! Matsujun congratulations!!! ” Jun told Aiba everything, with details, except the kissing part. But every single emotions that fill his head that night was voiced out to his friend “That is so great!!! I’m so happy for you Matsujun!”
“Yeah me too” He accepted looking at the floor with a shy smile “So what, you realized that that tale about protecting her from me was just a stupid joke?”
“No, I still thing that it can bring her some trouble, but fuck it, it’s my duty to protect her, right Aiba-chan?” His friend knotted his arms around Jun’s neck, clinging his head with him “Of course! You’ll be Quijote and I’ll be Chanzo Panza!”
“Baka, you said it wrong! But thanks anyway” Aiba leaved a sloppy kiss in Jun’s cheek and got in return a soft hit in the guts.

Now Asuka felt like singing Emotions (1), like Mariah carey in the 90’s with her curls in the air, wearing oversized shirt singing on top of a convertible.
Last night her talk with her mom went pretty well. In a beginning she didn’t like the idea of her dating with the guy that broke her heart some days before, but Asuka looked happy, finally, and anyway if it didn’t work, she would be there for her daughter.
Asuka walk down the stair humming and jumping the last two steps of the stair. “Hello mother”
“Hello daughter” They joke as her mom served her a bowl of cereal. “Asu-chan, if you met with Matsumoto-kun today, I want you to bring him over, I want to met him” Asuka’s incredulous eyes made her mom giggle “Mom, too soon” Her mom insisted and Asuka has to promised it.
Sho and Nino didn’t react as she imagine. After Sho faced Jun, Asuka thought that from now on they would be enemies, but when Asuka told him who she was dating, her friend patted her shoulder, congratulated her with an honest smile and then came back to his book. Nino reacted in a similar way, but with more questions, and Asuka answered to all of them.
And Asuka was already missing Jun, and she felt so stupid when she realized that they didn’t exchange numbers.
At least he knew where she lived.
