Hi all,
I'm speaking at a conference Wed/Thur of this week
and I'm a bit uninspired/uncertain about what to wear. I need to be:
(a) smart but comfy during the day (especially Wednesday, when I'm giving my talk)
(b) rather smarter in the evening
(c) able to carry everything in a large shoulder-bag throughout both days, because I will only be checking in to my hotel on the evening of the first day, and checking out again before Thursday's programme. (Said shoulder-bag will also contain a laptop, so space and weight are at a premium.)
Probably this means that I should take only one pair of shoes, and this will probably be my brown 2.5-inch wedge suede boots. If I had a black equivalent ... well, I don't, having carefully excised much of the black from my wardrobe. I don't often regret that, but this is one of those times. I could in a pinch also take my black, heeled sandals, since they're light and don't take up much room.
I'd prefer to stick to trousers throughout: the Wednesday night isn't really dressy enough for the frocks in my wardrobe, and in any case I'm not really a big frocks person.
How's about I just list everything I might wear; maybe something will grab you that I'm not seeing?
Trousers:
chocolate brown boot-cut trousers
black boot-cut trousers
navy sorta-straight-leg-sorta-boot-cut trousers
pale slate (almost harebell) boot-cut (these are getting a little tired now though)
dark slate boot-cut trouser-jeans but with buttoned back pockets, so more casual
black (really black) narrow boot-cut jeans (these are pretty smart as jeans go)
ecru-khaki boot-cut trousers that sit somewhere between trouser and jeans
Tops:
black fitted shirt
pale blue fitted shirt
white fitted shirt, though it's getting to the time of year where white starts to make me look washed out
dark brown v-neck fitted stretch jersey top
dark brown v-neck fine-knit wool/cotton fitted top
off-black, slightly sheer fitted merino long-sleeved poloneck with buttoned cuffs
pale grey, slightly sheer cowl-neck sweater (pilling a bit but too fragile to de-pill)
black, slightly sheer shrug
tank tops in black, harebell, and pale grey (harebell and one black are v-necked; the others scooped)
pale grey fitted cashmere poloneck (the sort that needs to be worn over a layer)
fitted black vest-top
fitted watermelon vest-top
fitted pale grey vest-top
Anything jump out at you from all this?
Wild-card: I saw a deep red fitted shirt with a slight sheen in H&M that I loved and would consider buying to wear on Wednesday evening, possibly with the black jeans and heeled sandals. You know, if they still have any in my size.
Thanks in advance :)
(Oh, and I have a cold. Which hopefully will go away between now and Wednesday, but I'm mindful that it might be sensible not to wear anything in which I'll be freezing.)
