Breaking a bone is a sartorial emergency too

Wedding this coming weekend. Bigger do than the last one. Not sure how many guests but expecting a degree of pomp and circumstance (groom will be wearing a morning-suit, if that helps you to picture the scene).

So there I was, all set to wear the very glamorous outfit of Karen Millen Chinese-style dress (formerly Frankie's) and strangely comfy but quite swish strappy high heels (from BHS, but don't let that put you off), when I broke my toe.

Out went the heels. There is no way. Which left ... nothing. I had two half-outfits: the dress, but no shoes I could wear with it that wouldn't make me cry (whether from physical or sartorial pain); and a grey trouser-suit (awesome recent find: with lycra and interesting stitching around the shoulders that's like some secret reference to biker jackets, but not really - £40 from TK Maxx, reduced from (US?)$340) ... but the same shoe problem.

I went everywhere ... ended up in the Office outlet shop, buying a pair of flat grey suede pumps for £10. So Frankie, you're right: I will be wearing the grey suit (I really did try to look for footwear that would have gone with the dress, but everything that was right was also too high-heeled)

So, ladies, how do I accessorise? If I thought the temperature would be predictable, I'd be tempted to wear nothing [bar lingerie] under the suit jacket, keep it buttoned, and just wear a pendant necklace of some kind. But I'm not sure - the weather is being ridiculous and wedding reception rooms can get kinda warm later on (also, I would probably have to avoid alcohol, because if it started getting warm I might start unbuttoning the jacket without thinking about it ...)

What I like/look good in: minimalist things; plain colours; shades of grey/green/blue/scarlet; fitted tops.

What I don't like/look good in: patterns; big jewellery; pinks; loose-cut clothing.

What I want: to look chic but comfortable.

What I don't want: to look as though I just stepped out of the office.

Any thoughts?
