[In most cases, the Major would have kept the information he had received from Evan Olney upon his death. But the fact of the matter was that the Major was also a notorious gloater, and to be able to wave the information he received in the faces of others was simply too tempting to resist ( Read more... )

It's a reasonable assumption that the game alters appearance. The lack of formerly distinguishing features on arrival is well-known.

That he is dead may move the game into a new round. An interesting one, I hope. It seems to be a change in the status quo more than the woman.

Precisely. As well as lack of powers, and so on. Quite interesting, if you think about it.

We could certainly hope so. The town doesn't keep itself interesting anywhere near as long as I'd like.

It puts on a good show when it chooses to, but between the main attractions things get a bit dull. The town must adapt to the removed pieces. Something must change.

Then, perhaps we should take it upon us to amuse ourselves.

It will be interesting to see how our captor chooses to adjust. He must certainly have a plan, considering how little our captor hesitated to kill a traitor. Then again, logic would assume Olney was the ideal candidate for that position to begin with. Meaning they might now be playing with a weaker piece.

[Well that's a scary thought. BUT FIRST.]

How'd ya know it was really him?

Ah. Now that is a good question.

In all honesty, many of his personality traits seemed quite fitting, especially his outright hostility towards me and refusal to answer anything when I first found him.

Then again, it still could be a trick by the town, I will admit.

See, that's tha thing. Ya can never trust this town. They acted like people were dead before all dat April Fool's crap too, so there ain't anythin' sayin' it couldn't happen again.

True.

However, for them to attempt the same trick twice, and so close together, would be foolish of them. What if they've decided to get rid of some of those who have become undesirable, hoping we'll ignore it because of the trick on April Fool's day?

I should also mention that they didn't have replacements during April Fool's either. Samantha has so far been replaced, and Grady most likely soon will be as well.

Well yeah, that makes sense kind of, I mean. I had lost my leg before I was brought here, but when I got here I had both legs like nothing ever happened.

Uh... I'm sorry, who are you?

Mmm. This town certainly seemed quite intent on making us "normal" when we first arrive here.

The Major. And you are?

I'm Hiccup. And yeah, I noticed that.

[He hesitates.]

So... Grady... he was actually a guy named Evan Olney, and he's dead? That's... I dunno. I don't know what to think about that.

A pleasure to meet you, young man.

That is correct.

Oh? Are you not elated? Or, perhaps, scared, now that the devil we knew is gone and will be replaced?

First of all, what the hell is wrong with you? You are way too excited by all of this.

Secondly, if I may -- f you're trying to imply we're all just made-over drones, why would they bother making us all shiny and new on arrival and then give everything back piece by piece? Why give the game away?

sturmbahnfurher July 21 2011, 21:55:51 UTC
There is nothing wrong in being excited to see something come together, boy.

First, the game was given away by someone who was immediately killed after doing so. Secondly, why not? What do they have to lose, while having considerable entertainment to gain.

It's not as if you're going to be leaving.

Keep your pants on, jeez.

God, I don't know what's worse, thinking we're the playthings of omnipotent and malicious forces beyond reach or thinking we're being messed with by a bunch of lying schmucks from beyond the beyond who regularly fuck it up.

I was hardly irritate. Are you always so defensive?

They're one in the same, for the most part.

These are some heavy implications you are making.

Fascinating, terrifying and... I find myself wondering if you may be on to something.

One tends to find things you don't want to see when you look at shadows.

But just because they were in shadows does not mean they are not also true.

Correct, but I won't be disregarding other theories in lieu of this one just yet.

[Yeah she's just a little bit paranoid right now, thanks a lot Major. :|]

Our captors seem to be getting sloppy as of late. They're killing their own, and inadvertently revealed what could be a valuable piece to this puzzle.

I wouldn't say to disregard them either. I'm simply stating this could quite easily be a big one.

Mmm. Or it could be intentional, to make us think this way. Grady may have willingly sacrificed himself. Although, that is highly unlikely. He never struck me as a man who would've cared too much about his superiors.
