A bizarre matter of semantics indeed.

Intensive training and study has nothing to do with the real world!

Rationalisations that "student" is by no means a valid occupation, nor has anything to do with being in the real world going on over in ask_me_anything.

Unlocked at time of post.

EDIT: Thanks felishy for pointing out that students contribute in no way to society. layiliyal, you should get on breaking that ( Read more... )

Had she just said I think being a student isn't a job instead of work this would be a nil issue. Everyone here knows being a college student isn't the same as working a 40 hour week. Let it go.

thank you!

school = work
school /= job

saying, "i was in an EXTREMELY difficult & intense study program and though it took up more hours than a full-time job, it still wasn't a job!"

does not equal

"Intensive training and study has nothing to do with the real world!"

You said, "you'll find out once you're in the real world" implying that because I am a college student I am not living in the real world. Last time I checked college was the real world. Often times it is much harder than the real world and more demanding of many of the jobs out there. I would say that memorizing drugs and intubating animals is a hell of a lot harder than what you do, but unlike some people, I'm not going to be a dick and assume I know something about you that I do not.

Which means it was LIKE a job, but NOT a job.

Yup. It's still not a frigg'n job.

job1 /dʒɒb/
job·bing, adjective
-noun
1. a piece of work, esp. a specific task done as part of the routine of one's occupation or for an agreed price: She gave him the job of mowing the lawn.

Get your definitions straight. I'm a full-time student. It's not a job. I'm paying an institution to learn certain skills so later I can get people to pay me for my said skills.
