It's stupid time for the kids over at libertarianism .

So, Augusto Pinochet, general and President of Chile, died yesterday. When I heard the news, I expected everyone to celebrate and be merry. Hey, I know I am!

So what do I see when I go to my friends list today?

Personally, I think he was pretty alright as far as Latin American Dictators go. I'm just Read more... )

From now on, anyone who says a dictator is okay like shit_lizard did will be in violation of Che Guevara's law.

I think it should be renamed the "Alexander Solzhenitsyn Law" because Che Guevara wasn't particularly against dictatorships, if they were of the Leftwing variety.

Oh that's not what I meant.

i meant people who worship Che never really understand that he was a cold blooded murderer. They just go "oh...he was revolutionary...i don't know why..but he looks cool in a beret!"

This seems to be the case with the post in question too.

Precisely. It is hypocritical to celebrate one murderer simply because their politics allign themselves with yours. I'll fully admit that there was a time in my life, especially when I became more involved in my efforts to support undocumented workers (or whatever the fuck one prefers to call people that come over here to work and support their families in land that was once theirs), that I wore a Che shirt or two. But when I really looked into the guy, and what he DID, not what he was ABOUT, but how he WENT ABOUT THINGS...I was pretty appalled. Murder is murder, regardless of the ideology behind it.

I mean, look at Cesar Chavez. He didn't have to fucking kill anybody to get his point across (well, other than himself). Violence is never the answer. Violence begets more violence.
