After five missed opportunities, I finally got to perform in a music video. Granted, I was a 'featured extra', but I still got to do it.. so I guess that amounts to something.
The video was for a pretty nifty sounding pop rock act called The Summer Obsession. They recently were signed to Virgin and this was one of the two music videos from their full length album that will be out in August. Did I just plug them? Well, just to be sure, catch them on the Warped Tour.
[I wish my first was the Fall Out Boy video.]
On the first day I was told that I would be playing a homeless man. So I prepared for that, I didn't shave or wash my hair for a few days, and I gathered all my bum clothes together. After that I would shave and clean myself up for the rest of the shoot. But they postponed that part until the very end, so my plan wouldn't happy, and I looked like a bum the entire shoot and I couldn't change my appearance much between the three scenes.
On the first day I showed up earlier than most of the crew, cuz they kept changing the times on me. So I spent most of the time waiting, but because I was in such a rush to get out the door on time, I didn't bring anything to occupy my time. Once the band arrived things picked up. We were shooting the club scene where the band performs. I liked their music, and when they played along live it was more instense, so naturally I was into. I rocked out wherever they put me and made it feel like a real concert. So I did good, and there should be more people like me in music video shoots. When the band finally got to do the song in full, I was up in front row, and since I was probably the only guy who knew any of the lyrics, the lead singer sang it with me at the end. That was pretty cool. They were a cool bunch of guys, and I got to talk to them a bit about their shows and getting to see them. So I was happy with the night.
The second night was pretty fun too. It was the party scene, so they basically threw a small party and filmed parts of it. I got to do a little bit of adlib acting, if you wanna call it that. sigh.. I'm just trying to make myself feel better. After that part I finally got in costume and make-up to be homeless. There were only three of us this time, no big crowd scenes. We caravaned downtown and shot it under an overpass. Despite the amount of cops passing by, we managed to get it all in and call it a rap.
For some reason, I was bothered by this shoot. It didn't help that was comparing myself negatively against those who had actual parts. but I think I was the only actor who just agreed to be a part of it, who didn't know anybody involved in the shoot. I was doing charity work. I don't mind doing charity work, I did it for Roy. But I'm getting to the point where doing these kind of projects isn't worth it. I told my friend Kyle I was done doing volunteer work, but of course I keep doing stuff for people. But seeing that I was completely on his own in the shoot, I think it's about time I get an agent and get some help finding better projects.
