I got up and called my parents to see if they were coming up to Orlando, they arrived within the hour. I just finished breakfast and hadn't taken a shower, more importantly I hadn't picked up my room so there would be space to put furniture. But they showed up anyway. We spent the morning carrying heavy pieces of furniture into the apartment and setting up my room. So now, I have a perfectly Kevin-sized bed, a big metal desk, a really nice dresser, and more more space left. I HAVE A ROOM! I have to rearrenage everything, and figure out where I want stuff to go (feng shui ain't gonna happen), but as for now, I have a room! They also brought in some stuff for our living room, which looks entirely different now, but is much more functional.
When I noticed it was ten 'til noon I flipped out and quickly took a shower. I washed my hair faster than ever before. I got dressed, got my things together for the modeling thing, and left. I said goodbye to the family, hugged them and told them how much I appreciated them coming up to bring me furniture, but I was late so I made it relatively quick. I showed up at Audra's fifteen minutes late, and she was nowhere to be found so I just went strait downtown. When I got there she was still nowhere to be found, and then I got worried.
She eventually showed, everybody showed and we rehearsed the show. It seemed to go well but not smoothly. I had practiced the dance a lot before and it showed. It looked really good and everybody liked it. Now we needed to look good, we were all sent to the Tabloid Saloon for hair (and makeup if you're a girl). Audra and I were the first ones there, but the guy didn't get workin' on me until hours upon hours later. Which was okay, cuz I read magazine articles and ate free sandwhiches and crackers. They finally called me back to wash my hair, then they put some gel that curls it into it, and I had to get it dried. After that I proceeded to wait some more. It wasn't until 9, which is the call time to be back at the venue, that they got back to me. He added hairspray and a pin that fell out and told me he'd love to give me a real haircut sometime. I wanted that now!..for free! Anyway, back to the Social.
The show had been delayed, and they bumped acts up to go before us. I found my outfit, looked swank, and walked around in a cloak and shroud looking like a gothic Jesus. I also managed to be hit on by 16-year olds and get checked out by a random blonde girl. I guess my hair looked better than I thought.
The time finally came when the crazy lady who dramatically introduced the show got up on stage, then the creepy German music played, and we all went forward to the the stage cloaked in cloaks. After the introduction the real show started and everybody loved it. It was a lot of fun, poppy alternative music, 80s hair metal and punk, and hot bodies wearing cool clothing despite the many problems getting there. When they played that weird blues song I stepped out into the center (ugh) and my friends wooed for me (thanks guys :D). Audra came out, we did our bit of skanking back and forth, checkin each other out. We met in the middle and proceeded to swing. The dance was really cool, and everybody loved it. Unfortunately, I screwed up twice in it, but Audra's such a good dancer she made it look really good. And we continued to dance crazily and then went back behind the curtain from whence we came. Later we got mad compliments on the dance, a lot of people thought it was really good and cute and fun.. Nice.
And that was the story of my first swing dance.
After our show they did the bachelor/ette auction, which was kinda amusing. It sucked that only girls were getting bids. The house was full of lesbians and single guys. But none of that mattered because I was just waiting to see Real Love Diplomats. So were Dave, Jesse, and Savannah. I went back stage to find Audra, and she was in the green room talking to Michael, who looked So Good. He finally approached the stage, the band played, and we rocked. They did probably the best show I've seen them do yet, it was so cool. Michael was really really into it, he was amazing. He's such a great frontman, I love it. Even the rest of the band looked like they were having fun. Michael came down into the crowd a few times, and he sang directly to Savannah a few times, her heart stopped. Before the last song he brought the back-up mike down and set it up right in front of us. The guys pushed me forward to older girl (and eventually girls) who knew the song better got to it. But as I was singing the parts I know, Michael came down into the crowd and was singing with everyone who was singing, including the girls. He eventually came over to me, and I sang all that I could do, but I needed him to guide me on the beginnings of most lines (that was kind of disappointing), but whatever, I sang with Michael and we rocked and it was awesome.
What a great show! really great. even without the firebreathers. ..I told you all it would be neat.
