Life continues to be very interesting indeed. I was offered my old job back at the Coop. I am totally stoked about it but at the same time, it's not going to be easy. I absolutely LOVE the coop and have had a difficult time transitioning into my job on the island at the YMCA. My goodness. Let's just think about that for one minute y'all. the YMCA. That's the Young MEN'S CHRISTIAN Association folks. And well, let's face the simple facts here.
1. I am not quite so young anymore.
2. I am positive that I am not a Man...as much as I do enjoy my dick...
3. Um....Christian? Aren't they the ones who burned people like me at the stake?
Right...so, what the fuck am I doing there? Well, for those of you who didn't know, they officially changed their name so that there is no longer an acronym for the YMCA. They are now just that. The YMCA. So, that was my basic reasoning there. And I like to consider myself a change agent and what a better place to begin creating change than with an institution of that magnitude....right? Wrong
They like the idea of change, but not what it means to actually participate in a lasting change. I miss my family at the Coop and I am very glad to be going back there. That is a place where they desperately need my help and will be very glad to take what I have to offer them. I layed out an offer on the table to them when Robyn made me a desperate plea to come back.
I wrote out a 2 page re-hire proposal to them basically stating these things:
1. $13.50 an hour BARE minimum
2. Full medical & dental effective immediately
3. Monthly travel re-imbursement for my ferry costs of $218.
They took the bait without question. I was admittedly slightly shocked...but not really. So, here I sit trying to gather up my courage to give my 3 week notice. I will keep you posted on what happens from here. The only rather unfortunate part is that I will be commuting about 2 and a half hours a day, but half of that time is not actually driving so I can spend time reading, sleeping, meditating etc...in the ferry line and on the ferry.
So, that is where it's at.
