My car is in the shop until Tuesday, getting parts replaced in honor of the two warning lights that came on late last week, so I have a rental car: a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid automatic (it was all they had). My car is a 2002 Ford Focus stick-shift, so it's an interesting change, anyway. I've never driven an SUV before, but it's not that different from a mini-van. I was very puzzled by the "L" on the shift, and the manual is wrapped up in plastic and I'm afraid to open it. Ask.com tells me that it means the "all electric" setting, so I think I will not play with that, but stick to "D" and "R" and "P" (I've never understood "N," really; there's no clutch, so what does neutral do for you?).
(Injured Foot Update: The swelling and discoloration are much reduced, and I can walk normally as long as I walk carefully. No standing on tip-toe, wearing high-heels, or twisting my foot even a little.)
