more re: baking [today's review]

I like getting reviews from LeRoi because he's fairly catty so I assume he'll be candid. (But just in case I let him know that he should feel free to offer negative feedback, if applicable.)

He appreciated the moistness of today's offerings (both chocolate-orange and orange-orange blossom). When I had trouble filling the cupcakes, I just piped the buttercream on top. He didn't like that so much just because he's not a fan of frosting. (I will admit I was a bit aghast at this admission. Where do these people come from?) But he didn't mind the flavor, just the volume.

There was a flavor in the choco-orange cupcake--not a bad flavor, he hastened to assure me, but a flavor he couldn't identify. I'm wondering if it was the hint of baking soda. (Since I didn't detect that hint in the choco-orange cake, I wonder if the extra teaspoon of lemon juice I added last time really did make a difference.) Or maybe it was related to the glaze somehow. (I added a bit of salt to try to counteract the sweetness, but I perhaps should have gone with one pinch rather than two.)

Still, overall review was thumbs-up. So this tells me that, at base, these recipes are workable. Now I just have to work on refining them. (Or doing something entirely different, as tends to be my wont.)
