"dessert" table ideas [don't mind me, just note-taking]

- Cake (ovo-lacto, the rest tbd)

- Cupcakes (vegan, rosewater, maybe filled, [maybe lavender and/or jasmine could play a role here as well if I can't find a way to work them into the cake, but let's not get ahead of ourselves])

- Rice Krispy treats (vegan if possible, heart-shaped if palatable, choco-covered indubitably)

- Fruit plates (and omg how did I not think of that before now [of course I came to the idea by way of choco-covered strawberries, so obviously my priorities are just skewed], cheese might be a nice addition here but I don't fancy the idea of leaving cheese sitting out all afternoon [also, the groom is one of those non-cheese-eating Philistines], perhaps one could think of a nifty non-dairy accompaniment but fruit's pretty awesome all on its own so no need to spend too much time on that idea)

Looking at the list above, I'm inclined to omit the Rice Krispy treats. I do want to try to smack some savory items onto the table (so it'd be more like a dessert/noshables table) and I think fruit is a good gateway (meanwhile RK Treats might tip the balance).

Of course, now that I've written that I'm suddenly all interested in the notion of grilled peanut butter and (jelly/jam/banana/whatever) sandwiches. And I'm reminded of this recipe I came across yesterday, for chocolate banana cardamom jam. (I'm still on the fence about that recipe, but it did remind me of a notion I had a while back, to make a dark chocolate-peanut butter spread in the vein of Nutella. And that brought me right back to the idea of chocolate peanut butter cake, which I'm also on the fence about just because I'm trying not to overdo the choco; well, and also because of my nervousness about potential peanut allergy sufferers being in attendance [even despite reassurances from the bride that this will not be the case].)

On the topic of savory noshables, I'm stuck on the idea of miniature quiches (minus the egg, perhaps, since then I wouldn't worry about them sitting out so long) and tarts. Maybe some sort of strudel-like something filled with sauteed mushrooms and caramelized onions. But how would those taste at the outdoor picnic equivalent of room temperature?

Seems like grilled asparagus should make it's way onto the menu just because it's tasty (and the grill will be running anyway). And perhaps the asparagus could be wrapped in Parmesan. Another thing to consider is how to make grilled pizza happen. Grilled corn would also be awesome.

But back to the noshables.

Grape (or cherry or some other variation on the theme of small) tomatoes and teeny mozz balls on a stick might be a nice way to go. And in general it might be good to consider stackables in addition to purses.

I wonder how long it would take to set all this up.
