how did it go?

I ended up leaving work late (big surprise) so was late getting to Ashley's belly drills boot camp. Just as well, even with just half a session under my belt I was sweating like whoa.

Then I had 90 minutes to kill. So I drove down the street (would've walked, but it started raining again and my clothes had barely dried from my walk in the morning downpour). Stopped in at the bank and then at Starbucks*. And then actually sat for 45 minutes sipping a cup of mint-flavored coffee and reading a newspaper. Been a while since I've felt so leisurely.

But back to the drills.

Since I had stayed late at my office to work on it, my spreadsheet of movements for the regular class drill was complete. It still needs work, though. I tried to organize all the movements by body part. Now I think I should order them by the logic of the transition instead.**

Yesterday's drill went well, according to customer feedback. (Queen B and Molly were the only two who made it. Jen had to cancel because the consistent storms caused some indoor weather systems at her apartment.) I did practice the drill some over the past couple of days. But I completely forgot everything, so kept stopping to refer to the spreadsheet. (I'd anticipated this would be a problem, though, so had it taped to the mirror.) I also had trouble remembering some of the combinations, so kept referring back to my notebook.

At least I ended on a good note. The last thing we did was a slow combination of movements to Natascha Atlas's version of "I put a spell on you." I remembered the combination and the movements matched well with the music.***

The whole class was slower than I'd intended. I'd wanted to make it rather cardio-tastic, but it ended up being more muscle work. (That may have been a side-effect of going to the boot camp beforehand, since Ashley works that tribal muscularity thing.) I felt kind of bad for not living up to my own expectations (of what I thought they wanted) so kept apologizing. And was eventually told to just stop already since they were completely fine with what I was doing.

Anyway...

On a completely unrelated note, Queen B let me know that they have leg warmers at Walgreen's.**** I'd known this already and had in fact just gotten a pair from there. So now I have two Two TWO pairs of leg warmers. (I wear them around the house and do jetes.) Given this new information, I may swing by another store and see if they have more colors.

* The coffee mix-master complimented the hair color. (I'd been wondering whether or not to continue with the blue, if it would be seen as gratuitously wacky. Like, 'That was cool for a minute, but why do you still have it?' But... I'm kind of attached to the color now, so I think I will re-up.

** e.g. All the undulations should be grouped together. Hip drops and the steps that flow out of them together. So it's like, first learn the move, then learn what you can do with it, then move on to the next move. Another advantage of this would be that all the types of movement could be done to the same rhythm. That'll mean less skipping around on the CD's trying to find a song that works. Then it will be: hear a song, start a series that matches it and go from beginning to end.

*** Side-8 x4, Body wave down then up, Hip circles to transition to the other side. Repeat.

**** She'd wanted to get me a pair for Christmas/my birthday but couldn't find them then. So just got me a pair of hot pink tights, and a pair of blue sparkly tights+, and matching sets of these:
