I don't often read bad books, but the third 39 Clues book? Pretty bad. The plot got decent eventually (once it stopped relying on really, really lame devices). But the characterization of the kids, especially in the dialogue, ranged from seriously awkward to mildly offensive. kit_the_brave, have you read any librarian-reviews on this ( Read more... )

Aww, that's a bummer, cause I just read the first one and thought it was pretty good. Is each of the books so far written by a different author?

Yeah, each is written by a different author, although Rick Riordan, besides writing the first book, also mapped out the story arch in general. Gordon Korman did book 2, so that was also good, but 3 not so much. The person who's supposed to do 4 has apparently won some award, and they've got that Margaret Peterson Haddix (or however you spell her names) woman on board, too.

Don't worry about the weather. You never know, by next week there might be snow again!

Ironically, the temperatures (highs and lows) in Huntsville today were identical to those in Honolulu the last day I was there last month! And yes, yesterday afternoon there was still snow in the shady north slopes of my yard. Welcome to the south. The only thing crazier than the people is the weather.

No! I don't want it to change again! At least, not drastically. Drastic temperature change tends to make me feel crummy, no matter what state or country I'm in. Today, though, I feel really, really crummy, and nothing is helping, not even reading The Penderwicks.

:D Thanks! And I totally understand about the snow-to-warmth issue. Indiana likes to play that game constantly.

I was going to suggest you read a good book quick to erase the memory but have just seen the comment in whih you're reading The Penderwicks and it isn't helping...

I hope you feel less crummy soon!
