Ok guys, I met this lady today, and she needs some serious prayer. I'll give some background here, but yeah, she really just needs God's army surrounding her right now.
So my mom's friend started this store in the area where refugees from Katrina can come and get clothes and such for free, and she set my mom up with a woman, Donna, and her significant other, Lynn. Today we were supposed to take them to the store and get some warner clothes, some boots, general winter wear. When we got to pick them up, only Donna came out. Throughout the day I learned Donnas story, so here it is. They are from New Orleans and were in the Superdome before coming up here, where Lynn was raised, but they were staying with Donna's sister or something until they got an apartment. Donna's family here is no longer talking to her because Lynn got into a drunken fight and the police were called to the house. They now live in a small apartment across town. Donna is a 55 year old mother of 8 with her 20th grandchild on the way, however, one of her daughters and her family were never found after the hurricane and are most likely dead. Donna is also completely illiterate, so getting around town and performing basic tasks is very difficult for her. Oh, and she also has frequent seizures. Lynn is no help because he is usually drunk, seems to not care that her family is missing, and while Donna stays with him out of love, he has another girlfriend whom he spends all his time with (even when Donna was getting home from the hospital, by bus, after a seizure). Oh, and he beats her. a lot. and because Donna had no i.d. during the hurricane, Lynn put her down as his wife, under his name, and thus basically stole her identity. He has no income and refuses to find a job, so instead steals her pension. Everything she has, he has taken, her money, pride, and safety. FEMA called to offer him a paid trailer to live in down south, which Donna would love, she has no reason to be in Ohio, but he refused it. I felt horrible taking her back home, as we got nearer you could see the panic in her, but thats where she wanted to go. We offered her a place to stay, and she has the number of a women's shelter, but she has to make that decision. She kept saying that she can take it, and there's a reason for everything. The Lord won't give her more than she can handle, she kept saying... but He does provide ways out.
I did not want to leave her there, she's not safe. It makes my complaints about life seem so insignificant. She has nothing, and the one person she has abuses her. I don't know what else to do but to pray, so that's what I ask you guys to do, just lift her up and pray that she gets some divine protection. This lady is so amazing, God be with her. Just one more reminder of how much we have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
