dont feel at all obligated to read this this is a story abt my trip to the elderly home it is long and tedious i just wanted to share a lil about these people before i forget. welll life is interesting i performed my dance at the elderly home where we went it was fun there, dirty but fun. The people there loved the stuff we did especially my outfit cause it had alot of jingles on it. They were really sweet people and they were really happy when we gave them little treats like little moon cakes (kind of like a twinkie) and other little sweets and jello and stuff cause it was such a rare treat. They really had fun kicking a soccer ball in a circle even though they were a little slow and not all of them got to kick very often. I kept my dress on as a kind of display thing so everyone who didnt want to play could see and i basically just tried to smile at and talk to the people who werent playing ball. The majority of them couldnt really talk but they could do actions and then i would respond to it and talk abt things to them in chinese like about how it was nice that someof them were friends and how things are much more fun if everyone plays in a group and how you should treat your friends nicely and stuff. One lady came up to me and pointed to a deformity in her face and began to tell me something i think about how bad it was and how no one liked her because of it but instead of letting her finish i simply interuppted to tell her that to me it didnt matter and that me and her friends didnt care and she was beautiful and God loved her and that mad eher really happy. Another of the people who were there could not really communicate at all she was a grown up orphan with heart disease who no one wanted to adopt so she got transfered to that place. All she needed from most anyone was some love and attention showed by holing her hands which she held in front of her for whoever cared to take. I found it sweet that as i stood there talking with others holding her hands that so many other disabled peoeple came to say hello to her and play with her. I know this is excessively long but i would like to have it here nonetheless just for my own sake. Dont feel obligated to read it. During my visit i noticed that there was a simple language that the caretakers of these people used to communicate with them. It was a sort of very simple sign language used mostly to give directions or to scold. Since i am generally able to understand such things i gave it a shot when a lady came up to me unable to talk to me in any other way but through this language. She told me by a few gestures that the music nathan one of my classmates was playing on his guitar for them while they walked around was very beautiful and she wanted me to explain to him that she was thankful. So i took her over by him and as she gestured i told him what she was saying. Once i finished explaining she was happy and i began to amuse the crowd that had grown around me by teaching them simplified arm moves from my indian dance which they readily repeated. It was lots of fun except for when one of them was upset by something another had done and explained gto me in rather angry mandarin that that person was uhm well not good. We eventually had to go so after gathering for a pict during which the persons hand who i was holding decided to kiss my hand and my wrist and forearm which was a little uhm uncomfortable but i didnt mind so much because i understood it was her waqy of displaying affection. When we left everyone waved good bye and we got on the bus and went to a nice lunch. I hope we get to go back and see those people again this time maybe we can bring them little toys :)
