The first is rhetorical: how the **** are nettle seedlings germinating in this weather?!
Second: for a few years now, I've bought spring bulbs in Dec/Jan when people are selling them off cheaply, planted them, and had good results. Does earlier planting give earlier flowers (I don't mean forcing indoors, just in the garden) or help them establish better for naturalisation or anything? It certainly makes bulbs more vulnerable to slugs and mice over the winter.
