Today has been an extremely productive day, thanks in great part to
soteltie, who came over this afternoon and was my cheerleader/fabulous company during a marathon cooking fest!
I have:
1. red bean soup cooking in the crockpot (a totally made up recipe that may or may not turn out to be food--we'll see. When it's done, I'll puree it and possibly toss some ham in.)
2. cranberry-couscous stuffing (for my extremely piecemeal turkey dinner)
3. homemade cranberry-orange sauce
and the piece de resistance (sorry I'm not proper-French-accent-enabled, but you know what I mean),
4. homemade turkey pot pies using my One True homemade pie crust recipe.
I've never made these before, but if the pie innards are anything to go by, these are going to be made of NOM. I jacked the recipe from a chicken & dumplings recipe I often make, but swapped out some of the veggies and used turkey instead of chicken. I'm not generally a huge fan of turkey leftovers in anything other than sandwiches (no turkey soup for me! Blech!). However, if these are as good as they smell, I can totally get behind them, and will hereby add them to my Thanksgiving lexicon.
I have two of the pot pies cooking in the oven now for lunches throughout the week (they're in tart pans, so that's 4 servings) as well as a cranberry-orange tart made with some of the homemade sauce and the last bits of crust. I'm not sure how that will turn out (it was an intriguing suggestion from
soteltie, not something I've ever tried before), but hey, it's Food Experimentation Day here at the Palace, so WTH! I am optimistic about it. :-)
In other news,
soteltie and I are enjoying a great deal of plotting for silliness. How the silliness will take form is still...well...rather "freeform", but I do not doubt that silliness will ensue. In the meantime, plotting is gud, too, especially with pie on the side.
I'm totally exhausted now. :-) I'm going to kick back and watch a "watch instantly" Neflix movie next, I think--probably something fluffy that I've seen before--during which I hope to curl up with a warm Supreme Kitty Being. And then, it'll be time to get ready to head back into the fray tomorrow. Having 4 days off in a row was Seriously Excellent.
