Adventures in cooking!

Whoops!

1. The enormous turkey breast that should have taken 5 hours to cook took just 3 hours. Nothing else is even started yet. It's fortunate that I'm only serving myself and there's no particular timeline to getting it all done. It's also fortunate that I'm only cooking my favorite parts of the traditional turkey dinner, not the 80432702 things I'd probably be cooking if I had company.

2. Turkey breasts do not yield enough juices for gravy. Hence, I have no gravy to go with my turkey. Gravy is one of the best parts of a proper turkey dinner. Also, the lack of gravy is going to interfere significantly with my ability to make a turkey pot pie with the leftovers without making a run to the grocery store for (gasp!) canned gravy. Boo.

3. I don't really feel like doing any more cooking right now.

4. On the "to-do" front, I got something done while the turkey was cooking that wasn't on my list but was very productive--a down-home, scrub-everything-that's-scrubbable bathroom overhaul (not the spit & polish on the fly that it usually gets). Everything gleams now!

So anyhow, the turkey is cooling a bit, at which point I'll carve it, eat a slice and store the rest for later. I did get the mail when I took the trash out, so maybe I'll watch one of my Netflix movies now.

nom, home sweet home
