In "thanks for that brief bout of stressing me out" news:
When I dropped my car off at the dealer at 8 this morning, the service guy I always deal with looked at me and said, "did you call back later and tell us to order the parts for this repair?" I looked at him and replied, "well, you didn't tell me I would need to do that, so that would be a "NO". This is a lot more sarcastic than I usually am, but really, how would I know I needed for them to order parts? I don't know what parts they keep in stock.
They scrambled and found the parts somewhere. I don't know (or really care) where.
Bless 'em, though--they did indeed give me a ride home. :-) Now I just need to cross my fingers that they'll be done with it by 4:30 or thereabouts, since they aren't open on the weekend.
I love working at home!
1. Nobody has called me today. NOBODY. Some days are like that (though not many), and I'm glad today is one of them.
2. Nobody at work knows that I'm wearing lounge pants and a ratty t-shirt right now. I HATE dress suits and pantyhose.
3. There's all sorts of multitasking I can do. I'm on my 3rd load of laundry and have also washed the dishes. A second load of dishes is in the dishwasher. I've also cleaned out my refrigerator and emptied the trash.
4. There are no interruptions from office coworkers who are interested in being social. I love 'em, don't get me wrong, but as with the quiet phone, I'm getting a lot more done without interruptions.
5. I can take a lunch break whenever I want.
6. I successfully just made my first-ever "this actually tastes passable" cup of coffee at home. This heralds the beginning of a new era!
7. Every so often, the cats wander my way for a little love-fest. Right now, they're all sleeping in cat beds (K and Dori) and on the white chair (Phoebe).
In "I like to plan ahead" news:
It's almost July. Ergo, thoughts of fun summer activities have been tickling my brain. I'm planning to go to the Lowell Folk Festival on the last weekend in July. While I know lots of folks will be at Pennsic, I'm wondering whether anyone who will be in town (or who wants to come into town) would be interested in joining me. I'll go by myself if there are no takers, but going to concerts with friends is always lots of fun. If you'd be coming from out of town (or from somewhere further away in the greater Boston metropolitan area), you would be welcome to stay overnight on my lovely new sofa bed. I will probably even be able to squirrel you a temporary overnight parking spot in the parking lot at no cost to you. Daytripping is also an option, of course. :-) For those who are unfamiliar with the Lowell Folk Festival, go
here. Note that all of the music, all weekend long, is free. FREE! With free parking, free housing, free music AND quality time with me, how could you possibly go wrong? If interested, you know what to do. :-)
In "it's really summer now" news:
1. The National Park Service is taking visitors on boat trips down my canal. Every time one goes by, I want to lean out my window and wave. :-) That would, of course, necessitate opening the window and letting all the muggy air inside, so I'm restricting myself to smiling right now as they go past.
2. I'm going to go to my favorite farm stand tomorrow after I get my hair done. It's only a couple miles off Rt. 93 near the intersection with Rt. 495, so it's pretty much a no-brainer. Same for the Whole Foods in Andover, so I can pick up some parsnips for making beef stew. The frozen chicken stew worked so well for Coldwood that I figured this would be perfect for dinner at GNEW. I've almost got this whole "camping by myself" food plan for events mastered, hooray! Mirabel is all about the no-brainer, low-cook-time meals for events. As much as I like to cook, I'm generally too busy having fun to want to spend a ton of time cooking while I'm camping.
3.
hugh_mannity has me thinking about ice cream. I'm sure that Gary's is open now. In somewhat dangerous news, it's actually one of the ways I can go home from the car dealer. Whether I go will probably depend on when we get the afternoon thunderstorms that were predicted for today.
In cotehardiejournal news:
A picture, as everyone knows, is worth a thousand words. You can has 5 of dem!
I made the buttonholes and eyelets from bottom to top. I still think that the two buttonholes on the bottom are crap, and the two eyelets, as I mentioned, are a bit too small to hold a cord. However, I'm quite pleased with the top 3 buttonholes.
Yellow buttons & green buttonhole test piece
To me, this looks to be the perfect button spacing for the yellow buttons. I think the buttonholes are a little longer than they need to be, though.
Green buttons and green buttonhole test piece
This picture's a little hard to see, with the dark green buttons on the dark green ground. I'm pleased with the buttonhole length here, but think the buttons are too close together (they're touching one another).
All in all, I'm pleased with the progress so far. My goal is to be at a point where I can start making REAL buttonholes on the ACTUAL garment by the time I go down to my sister's next weekend. That way, I'll have a whole 3-day weekend in which to work on them. This will be especially handy if it's raining and we can't go in the pool.
In other good news, I've just learned how to post pictures on LJ. :-)
