* Saw X-Men: First Class last week and then got eaten by the fandom. Umm. Okay! Without getting into spoilers, the film hurts me in my feminism. There are a lot of glaringly obvious issues in terms of gender and race. In addition, it doesn't really work as a prequel. There are several straight-up contradictions of earlier films, let alone stuff that doesn't match implications set up. (But then those movies kind of contradict themselves.) There are also plot holes within the movie as a singular entity.
But yeah I enjoyed it a lot.
MAGNETO AND CHARLES AND RAVEN!! Like everyone else, I ship Charles/Erik like whoa. (I shipped them when they were old too. But this time there's more fic, and they were the leads.) I'm also pretty fond of Raven. Oh, young!Mystique. There should be more fic of her. (I mean, I get why Charles/Eric is 95% of the fic. But Hank, Alex, and Sean seem to get more shippy fic than her, and about as much overall.)
* I watched Dolores Claiborne last night - awesome movie. It starred Kathy Bates as a domestic servant who may have murdered her employer, and Jennifer Jason Leigh as her estranged daughter. Both women are full of sharp edges, and their relationship is a love-hate one, full of resentment and attachment and worry. Very complex. The relationship between Kathy Bates and the woman she may or may not have murdered is pretty complex too.

I can be incredibly predictable in my tastes sometimes. Hard-edged women with complex relationships and deep-seeded issues and possible violent streaks? Aaaaah, I am there.
The film is based on something Stephen King wrote, but there aren't any supernatural elements. I should also note that there are a lot of potentially triggery things, which I won't list due to spoilers. (I'm happy to let you know specifics if you want, of course.)
* I now have a tumblr. It's interesting. Not a great tool for conversation, but for public messages and funny images it's fun? Lazy blogging!
