More March Madness

So Caroline of TVD is definitely losing to Lorelai of Gilmore Girls. Lorelai is pretty awesome, so I can't really fault people for voting that way. Of the sixteen characters who started off in the Teen Bracket, she's one of the three that I have any attachment too. (The others being Veronica Mars and the previously mentioned Caroline Forbes. I like Popular, but Mary Cherry was just a fun crack character for me.) So she totally has my vote in her battle against Kurt Hummel of Glee tomorrow. I think he'll win, but Veronica Mars is my end game person for the entire thing anyways. (I think she's always won the Teen Bracket, but never makes it to the top two. *shakes fist* I guess Kurt could be tough competition though, since Glee is like VM in that people outside its demographic are more likely to have seen it. ...and for all my issues with the show, and even Kurt as a character, it's kind of neat to have such a popular gay character. But then I just like Lorelai and Veronica a million times more.)

Anyways, as a last hurrah, I'm linking to some Caroline comments I liked:
For the record, my top three on the show right now are Bonnie, Stefan, and Caroline.

Moving on!

I posted a comment on Why You Should Vote for Castle.  He's beating House right now, and is up against Sherlock Holmes of the 2010 BBC series next round.  I'm not a super regular viewer of his show right now, but I adore the character for a number of reasons.

Though he sometimes is put in the category of dickish-genius problem solver guy, he really isn't.  He's playful and sometimes irreverent, but not cruel.  He's helpful in investigations, but we never get the feeling that the police would be lost without him.  This is because the police actually know how to do their jobs!  Especially the detective he follows around, Kate Beckett.  She is competent and snarky and badass (and also pretty attractive).  Their snark and conversational wit is pretty evenly matched, unlike a lot of other shows where the guy is automatically the brain and/or emotion if the lady gets to be the brawn, or she's perfect to the point of lacking characterization.  I'd say she's more prone to stunning him, but not to a ridiculous extent - he sometimes fanboys her because WE SHOULD ALL BE FANS OF KATE BECKETT.  (She's also secretly a huge fan of his books, but tries to hide it from him because it's embarrassing.  And he already has a big enough ego.)

Which brings me to my next main point: he's surrounded by amazing ladies and is appropriately in awe of them.  Watch this fanvid of Castle, Alexis, Martha, and Beckett.  Martha is his flamboyant actress mom, who lives with him for much of the series.  She raised him by herself (...Castle says he had "many father figures" though, ha).

Alexis is his teenage daughter, who he largely raised by herself.  (Her mom left when she was four, and is a generally unstable person.)  Alexis is far more responsible than anyone else in her family.  She's studious, is in French club and takes violin.  She almost became a cheerleader, but doesn't because it would take too much time away from other extra-curriculars that she likes.  (Not out of some snobbery about cheerleading as an activity.)  She actually GROUNDED HERSELF when she didn't pay for the subway.  She's not just some automaton though!  She's friendly and adorable and bribes her dad with breakfast food when she wants something.  She makes some mistakes and can be too hard on herself.  Mostly she's a "good girl."  But she stands up to her dad when he gets too overprotective.  She and her dad have one of my favourite father-daughter relationships ever.  (After Veronica and Keith Mars.)  Some things they do together:
  • Fencing in their condo.   And talking about boys.  At the same time!
  • Lasertag!  In their condo.
  • Talk about pop culture.
  • Be amused at his mom/her grandma's antics.  (She and Martha also get amused at the expense of Castle.)
  • Hug.
  • ...other stuff. (I`m tired.)
He's also played by Nathan Fillion!  Here's a clip of the show making a hilarious Firefly reference.
