That guy who ran TV commercials with his Social Security Number emblazoned on the side of a truck and shouting it from a bullhorn in major cities... has been hit with an instance of identity theft.
Part of the sad reality of this is that people - everyone from company HR departments, to banks, your local car dealership and the IRS view your Social Security number as absolute gospel. Um.... it's a fucking 9-digit number which by itself has no inherent security. 123-45-6789 is no more or less secure than any other 9-digit number.
Man... we all got sold a bill of goods on that one.
