Survival of the Trump Suit

The Birdy and I survived the trip to CO. It was quite the trip to say the least. To put things in perspective, my mom has four older brothers. They were all at the reunion, their kids were all at the reunion, 9/10 of my generation was there and all 7 spouses. Add to that the 13 kids of the next generation and the total is: 39 people. 5 under the age of 2. The Birdy wasn't the youngest, but she was the smallest, and the youngest was only 1.5 mos old! Oh, and there's another little one on the way, one of my cousins has a little boy due in September. All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend. I played cards until the spots wore off onto my fingers. Pinochle and pitch. It was great! I got to spend time with family members I hadn't seen in over 3 years.
Little Birdy did really well! She was the star of the show with her big toothless grin. She got passed around to all the aunts and cousins and managed to win the heart of the 13 year old boy who is the oldest of her generation. They were sooo cute! She even managed the car rides without too much difficulty, though she got really tired of her car seat by the time we hit western Ks on the way home.
OOOhhh... good story, one my mom will never live down. The Birdy was asleep so we were just boogieing down the road when all of a sudden mom says the car isn't responding. We pulled over, tried to restart it, nothing. Only then did my mom notice the gas gage! EMPTY! So there we were on the KS/CO border, literally, on the border trying to explain to the roadside assistance lady where we were. For some reason it took 15 minutes to get it across to her that we didn't know what town we had just gone through, but that we were literally on the border between the states on I-70! I thought that was hilarious. So we sat there for 30 minutes until the guy got there with a couple gallons of gas to get us to the next town. We all had fun teasing my mom about that the rest of the weekend, and I'm sure that the teasing will continue through the next few road trips.
But now we're home. Birdy has slept almost all day, and even let me stay in bed until almost 11. I greatly appreciate that! I found out that I got my loan to buy an English horn. WOOT! That is incredibly exciting! I can't wait until I have my new instrument in my hot, little hands! I actually like EH more than I do oboe, and I like oboe an awful lot so you can imagine how excited I am about this! Now I just have to wait until August for the rest of the money and it will be mine! woo hoo!!
