(no subject)
So the Rangers season came down to the very last game, and they lost in a shootout.
What am I supposed to say? That I'm so upset? That I'm so surprised? It came down to the LAST.GAME.
Obviously, as a fan, I would have liked to see them make the playoffs. I never want my teams to miss post-season, it's exciting and it's good for the guys to get the experience. But if they had won today it wouldn't have been like oh, they worked hard all season, because they didn't! They started out great, but about halfway through they decided not to be great anymore, or really even all that good. They figured they would just sit back and let Henrik take care of everything, and, of course, that doesn't fucking work. They fought for the last few playoff spots for months.
Then it got to be April, and they won almost every game. But so what?! Teams shouldn't just wake up in the last few weeks of the season and go " HEY, GUYS, LET'S MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!" because
A. every other team in their position is trying to do the same thing
B. they still have to play the other teams who actually felt like making the playoffs ALL SEASON, not just in the last few games.
And, okay, I'm a little cranky right now, but I'm not so much cranky over this game as I'm cranky over the season they had. Like WHAT THE HELL.
We had several shitty defensemen, as usual. They didn't do much scoring, as usual (except Del Zotto in the first few games and Staal inthe last few.) Brashear couldn't even last half the fucking season, not that I expected him to in the first place. Our goals were pretty much only scored by Gaborik and Prospal, with a little Callahan and Drury and some other guys thrown in every now and then. Some of the only highlights I can think of are the trades we made, which is kinda sad, but I do hope we keep those guys (good riddance, Higgins.)
So. Did they deserve to go? No. Did I want them to? Sure. But they didn't. So I have to suck it up and hope for the best next year.
...... Okay. I will say that I'm grateful for the two road games I went to up here. I saw them beat the Leafs at the ACC in October, and I saw them beat Buffalo at the HSBC during a fun, Buffalo-wings included road trip across the border. But all in all... Meh.
At least I'm still a Yankees fan.
