Simon has been Exploring.
Admittedly, his exploring has been more along the lines of "finding small dark places to hide" and "picking up interesting-looking pieces of rubble", but still, it was exploring.
It wasn't finding people, though, and he'd liked the two people he'd met here. And Byron always says that he should try to meet more people, even if he's shy. So he went exploring closer to the other people this time, instead of sticking to the outskirts near the Wall. Not actively looking for anyone, but he at least wouldn't hide if he saw someone this time.
