Stephanie Brown is more familiar with the Gotham skyline than any sixteen-year-old girl should be. Not familiar just with the way it looks, but with which buildings are good to shoot for, which provide the best views of traffic, which you can leap off and how long you can leap for before splattering in oncoming traffic. She knows which way to jump ( Read more... )

I've taken up what Cass has been doing since she got here; keeping an eye on the wall where I entered in the hopes that it will either provide an exit, or at least warn me of any potentially dangerous individuals entering this 'Eden'. I haven't met anybody here besides Cass; seen people, but for the moment I've kept to myself, set my mind to doing this task, watching up from the rooftops, hoping for some answers if I wait and watch long enough.

Instead, I get more questions.

"Oh my god..."

Like what in the name of hell is Stephanie Brown, A.K.A. The Spoiler, my old girlfriend, doing here when she should be dead.

What she's doing here, at the moment, is rubbing her leg angrily, as if the ground did her a personal insult when it hit her, and staring up and down the length of the street as if it's going to flicker out of existence again if she just stares hard enough.

She looks annoyed. This is because THE GROUND HIT HER. And Batman is totally going to think it was her fault. And it SO WASN'T.

This can't be happening. It's impossible. Steph is dead. She's dead. This has to be a trick. It has to be. Illusion. Hallucination. Trickery, something, anything. It can't be her, because she's dead. Black Mask tortured and killed her. This I know for sure ( ... )

Steph freezes as it whizzes by her face. That sound is not a good sound.

... okay. The Boy Wonder's here. So it's probably still somewhere she can get home from. But apparently, he's insane.

Steph lowers her hands and straightens up from the defensive position she's automatically dropped into.

"...Jack," she says, after a moment, deciding it's safer to just answer the questions until she knows what the hell's going on. "And he doesn't like Canadian Bacon pizza."

Or he didn't last night, anyway.

What does he mean, Stephanie Brown is dead?

Down the street, there is noise. Specifically, giggles. Should one peer down said street, they would find adorable twin girls, one sitting up in the lap of a young man around Steph's age himself, another standing-- but only because Sokka's holding her hands up to keep her upright.

There are giggles. None of them are Sokka's.

...Probably.

AWWW BABIES!

But ... uh. Why? What? Where? What the hell is going on? Why are there babies in the middle of the street?

"...uh ... hi?" she tries, tucking her mask into her belt pocket and taking a few steps down the street towards them. "...er?"

Hey, some strange person who looks confused and is wearing spandex!

Sokka is a little disturbed at how normal this is.

Looking up, he smiles a little-- while Hana and Loo greet Steph with the untranslatable words of, "AH BA AHM!"

It's excitement, really.

"Hey."

She kneels down to their level, a safe distance away, and makes silly faces at the babies.

"Hi. Uh. This is gonna be a really - awww, who's a lovely girl? - stupid question, but um. Agoo agoo agoo? Awwww. Where are we? Who are you? What's going on?"

From a dark corner of a rooftop, Cass sits and watches Robin and the guy with the babies as they both greet...

Steph.

She's not sure why she's so surprised. Hadn't she died twice already?

And hasn't this place thrown her enough curveballs.

Still she sits and watches and dares to hope that she's not dreaming and that really is her friend down there.

For real this time.

It's weird, the feeling that someone's watching. But Steph's learned to pay attention to her instincts.

So it's later, after Mysterious As-Yet-Unthreaded Things have occurred, when she comes back out onto the street and looks up and down it, frowning a little.

Yep. She's still watching. Still in a bit of disbelief.

It's her though. Same moves. Same walk.

Cassandra steps out from the alley and gives her friend a long look.

"Hey."

"Cass!" Steph's eyes light up. "Tim said you were here too! Oh my God, how weird is this place? Totally bizarre, right?"
