Interesting summer

So that lovely time is finally upon me, Tracy is officially on her study leave. this consists of her being off for 10 weeks with a mix of classes at the beginning to her spending the bulk of August in the basement studying. Only she is (rightfully, I'm not arguing this) taking it all very seriously. We haven't had the talk yet but she is to spend 6-8 hours a day studying, she keeps trying to tell me that this will be quiet time in the house. I'm a little concerned as she plans on taking the weekends off but I'll be home a few days during the week as weekends in retail don't happen often. I think we will have to discuss this soon and come to some sort of compromise. But she has just gotten off and is becoming a total stress case and is telling me on a daily basis if rather than when she passes the test. But according to the book in the section for friends and family (seriously) we are to refrain from telling her she's always passed so why would she fail now. It says that I wouldn't even understand a little bit and it is annoying for me to try to be supportive in that way. Here's hoping we all survive the summer intact.

Work has been okay. Not too much drama lately, however with a good portion of our bakery either on vacation of milking sick leave I don't get to go to my family reunion. I'm happy and sad. It's nice to see everyone without death or marriage being a reason. And apparently none of us cousins, except for one, are even into the whole marriage thing so we don't have a lot of reasons to get together. However, several of the cousins won't be there anyways and the rest of the people will be slightly distant relatives who all live within an hour or so of Hanley and know everyone else. Usually Tracy and I awkwardly just keep telling everyone we are Marvin's kids and that is really it for conversation.

We're coming up on Catie's tenth birthday. I'm amazed she's still alive, she's a tricky one. I find this more amazing as she is really the first big adult decision Tracy and I made without the benefit of our parents. Especially my dad who thought we would get bored other and she would end up being their cat. But we proved him wrong!

The weather this year has really been advantageous for my gardening. I seem to have a bumper crop of everything. Especially my beans. Who would have thought they would ALL grow. I think most of my meals will be trying to eat them up. Maybe I'll have to leave mystery packages on people's doorsteps... I'm sad that my apple tree didn't get any apples but my farmer dad assures me that this happens with transplants sometimes. And here I was looking forward to delicious apples all summer.

I think my goal this summer is to try to partake in some of the wonderful summer festivals that Edmonton has to offer. I've still never been to the fringe, aside from seeing a play the one time. And I don't think city adventure consists of me going downtown to eat delicious tacos and waffles. You gotta eat here is a mean show. It's the Canadian version of diners, drive ins and dives, it seems to mostly have a lot of seafood place from out east and random Calgary places. I wouldn't have thought calgary was a hotbed of good eating but they proved me wrong. Although the other Edmonton restaurants aren't quite as exciting. debating if I might go check out the street performers festival on my days off this week. I'll admit it's more fun to go with other people but it feels like my schedule isn't syncing up its anyone else's lately.

I'd also like to deal with my deck. I think my dad is going to help me fix the water damaged pieces and hang up some lattice. My new neighbors are way too close for comfort and I'd like at least an illusion of privacy to ignore them. Also it will help to keep their cat and kids out. Supposedly the cat is on leash, I guess animal control visiting helped, but shit happens. Also the kids throw a lot of balls over the fence. The kids climbed up on the fence and tried to fish the frisbee out the once. I felt like a bit of an ass not answering the door and watching them try to get it before their mom yelled at them but it was really funny. I kinda wish I had that on video. But I just keep reminding myself it could be worse!
