Summary: An accident starts it all. Boy meets girl. Their destinies begin to turn in a way they've never expected it to.

Chapter Title: 01. A Friendship at Bloom
"Ah, I'm gonna be late!" The young middle schooler ran as fast as he could, hoping that he'd make it in time for school. He woke up late, lost his homework, forgot his lunch, and now the school gates are going to close without him. Just as he thought that his day couldn't get any worse, a girl suddenly bumped into him.
There was a loud thud and he found the girl lying on the ground. It seems like she hit the ground too hard since she had a huge cut on her knee when she stood back up.
"S-Sorry." The girl apologized meekly and started to leave without wasting any more time. He noticed the girl's uniform to be from one of the public middle schools in the district.
Weird, he thought. Classes are supposed to be starting, why is she walking the opposite way from her school?
And then he looked towards the direction of where the girl came from. He saw a group of girls running towards them. Eh? They didn't seem like the kind of girls you'd want to be hanging around with. And then realization struck him. Was she...being chased?
He ran towards the girl and called out, "H-Hey! Wait up." The girl hesitantly looked back and asked, "W-What is it?" He didn't even mind that he's late and that he might miss a whole day of class but, this girl needed help. It looks like those girls won't leave her as long as she's on her own.
Walking in front of her, he smiled and offered a piggy-back ride. The girl gave him a puzzled look. "Um. What are you doing? I-I'm in a hurry so please---"
"You don't want those girls to catch you, right? Then let me help you." Was all he said. The girl just looked at him for a minute and decided to take the offer. He smiled and started walking.
It was a silent walk towards the park. They didn't know each other, after all. All this was happening just because of that accident earlier.
"Um....why are you doing this?" The girl finally asked, breaking the silence. The boy tried to think for a second and replied, "I saw those girls chasing you. And in your current condition, which was partly my fault, you won't be able to run away from them."
A pause.
"I just didn't want you to get in trouble, I guess."
The girl just nodded and didn't speak another word until they arrived at the park. As soon as he found an empty bench, the boy carefully set her down and sat beside her. "My name is Tsubasa. Shimizu Tsubasa." The boy suddenly said, holding his hand out in front of her. The girl slowly shook it and answered, "I'm... Inoue Maeko."
Tsubasa gave her a warm smile and reached for his pocket. "I'm sorry you got hurt." He reached for her knee, but she jerked it away. "Don't worry, I'll just put this on." He showed her a handkerchief and Maeko obediently nodded. As soon as Tsubasa finished bandaging her cut, he asked, "What about your classes?"
Maeko looked down and bit her lip. "I...I don't want to go back now. Those girls are probably waiting."
Tsubasa sighed and looked around. "I can't go to school in this condition either." The girl looked up with teary eyes. "I-I'm sorry...If I didn't run into you.."
"Don't worry about it. It's not your fault." He assured her. It made Maeko feel better that a small smile curved in her lips. "Eh~ You look awfully cute when you smile!" The boy exclaimed and she quickly turned bright red.
The two of them just sat there and laughed.
It was almost the beginning of Spring and a new friendship is about to bloom.
