A few hours ago, a suicide bomber blew him or herself up* in the Domodedovo International Airport, Moscow's main airport and the largest, most important airport in the Russian Federation. As of this writing, at least 30 people are confirmed dead and more than 100 of them are injured.
The worst part is that, from what I understand, the suicide bomber was able to get inside the airport because the airport security couldn't be arsed to guard the entrance.
Unfortunately, suicide bombings are not exactly new to Moscow. BBC News has a
sad tally of just how often it happened. And while American security seems to be learning from its mistakes, the Russian law enforcement agencies keep talking about how they're making the country safer without addressing any fundamental problems and security flaws.
30 people died. 30 people. God damn it
At least time, nobody died because of the idiocy of the Russian security forces. (Yes, I am still bitter about Beslan. I will not stop being bitter about that needless tragedy until the Powers That Be are finally held fully accountable for their fuck-ups) .
I am sure more details will emerge in the coming days. For now, I am just sad over this tragic loss of life.
Rest in peace.
P.S. For the Russian speakers on my friends list,
Gazeta.ru's take on the incident. For everybody else - a
