A mix of Linkin Park and Ariana Grande gives power to a lust song

When this video showed up in my Youtube suggestions, I had the same reaction as a lot of other people. A remix of Ariana Grande with a bad that pretty much defined teen angst in the early 2000s sounded like a stupid idea. It had to suck.

But, to my surprise and the surprise of so many others, it actually turned out pretty damn cool.

For one thing, the melody from "Numb" and the singing from "Into You" fit together surprisingly well. Though, given Grande's fondness for Evanescence, another band that defined early 2000s angst, something Linkin Park flavored isn't really that out of character for her.

For another, the original's melody is kind of a generic dancy thing. All of the rock and angst give the song unexpected power. And it takes a song whose message boils down to "I seriously want to do sexy things with you, very sexily, screw the subtext, pun intended," the remixed melody gives it almost a desperate, tragic edge.

Then again, this may be my associations with the original "Numb" talking. What do you think?
