In a bit of a follow-up for the earlier sex in the Moscow subway story

It's not really clear what happened to "Andrei R," a Digger who had sex with his girlfriend in the service tunnel of the Moscow subway, took pictures and posted them online. His social media accounts have been silent for the past few days, and I can't find any reference to his fate on the news. And there's nothing about his still-anonymous girlfriend.

But we do know now that under the law, at least, the couple's punishment would be relatively light - according to an article on the Newsru news site, it's just a 300-500 ruble fine. The only thing they can be charged with is trespassing.

An article in Moskoviskiy Komsomolets newspaper sheds a bit more light on what motivated Andrei to do what he did.

[Andrei] is known online as "Alkogolic-Extrimal" ("Alcoholic Thrillseeker"). By this own account, he planned to go into the tunnel with a group of friends to take some pictures against the urban landscape. But none of the friends came. Once he was alone with the young woman, the young thrill-seeker suggested that they should show off in front of their "colleagues" in Digger-dom and take photos of an unusual act of love.

According to his friends, the desire for extreme experiences awoke in "Alkogolik-Extrimal" relatively recently. Before that, he just abused alcohol. Recently, the youth has been getting into abandoned military installations, crawling into the subway and even going up the high-rises with Roofers [the term refers to a very particular type of urban explorers]. Though Roofing didn't really work out for him: he was caught both times. But in spite of all that, the youth dreamed of his photos getting thousand likes. He never got less than ten likes, because they weren't all that original. Maybe that's why he decided to do the sex act in the subway

"I heard that he wanted to do it for a long time," an urban explorer named Ivan told Moskoviskiy Komsomolets. "A lot of people, including him, were envious of famous digger Nikola Boxharov. Two years ago, Nikola became famous across the Digger world for having sex in a subway tunnel. Though he and his girlfriend were at least creative. They put together a bed, brought a pink sheet from somewhere, made it all romantic and stuff. Kids these days aren't creative enough."

So there you have it. Andrei - who, as it turned out, is only 18 years old - wanted to be famous on the Internet. And now he is.

Meanwhile, according to Newsru, the Moscow Subway responded to the incident by running an unscheduled inspection of all ventilation shafts to see if they can be accessed by "unauthorized persons." They are also inspecting alarms in service and passenger tunnels. Given that the couple were down there for two hours without anyone being the wiser, I can see why the transit system would be nervous.

They didn't say when the inspection was going to take place - for obvious reasons.

I doubt this is going to stop Diggers from exploring Moscow subway tunnels. But I do hope that they would be more careful when bragging about their exploits online.

And Andrei - seriously, dude, there are better ways to get more likes on VKontakte.
