The Incredible Hulk - Movie Review

Jun 13, 2008 07:02

I don't know if I've mentioned it before but my husband is a huge comic book collector. We have over 50 of the long boxes in our basement. Seriously, I could open a used comic book shop. How many are mine - well I brought 2 of those boxes into the marriage. So yeah, I'm a comic book fan too.

The Hulk is one of his favorite characters and he has the comics to prove it - me not a fan. But I do remember the old show with fondness - Loved Bill Bixby!

So, that was why I found myself at the midnight showing even though I have to be at work at 7:30am. In the immortal words of Danny Glover "I'm getting to old for this shit" but there is something magical about going to the midnight showing with all the die hard fans.

We both felt that the movie got everything right. While I thought is was a good movie, Hubby absolutely loved it and so did the others we were with. They thought the Hulk was the best movie of the summer so far but to be fair our friends hadn't seen Ironman yet.

I did enjoy all the little throwaways that referenced the old TV show including a cameo by Lou. It was fun to hear the reaction of the audience when they caught those things too.

But my absolute favorite part. The cameo by Robert Downey Jr. I squeed like a little fan girl. (yes Ith, the 2 minutes of Tony made the whole Hulk movie worthwhile for me)- I need to see Ironman again.

They did a fabulous job of showing that this movie and Ironman take place in the same world. From the weapons that carried the Stark Industry label to the computers that displayed the SHIELD logo, the attention to detail was impressive.

Edward Norton was terrific and the love story was heartbreaking. The fight scenes between Hulk and the Abomination did feel a bit like watching a video game. So overall - good movie but it's not Ironman.
