See, I've read so many different canons for Logan, plus the cartoon from the early nineties, that it's all one big mess in my head anyway.
Plus, is Wolvie and Sabretooth as brothers really any madder than the 'immortal representatives of an eternal struggle between good an evil' or the whole 'not mutants, but Lupis Sapiens'? I'm sure I've read a comic book canon that hints that they're father and son, or at least related in some way.
They're currently running Origins and Endings over here, so I just finished reading about how Weapon X wiped his memory using Carbonadium (I've probably misspelled that) after every mission to keep him in check, so I think they were trying to go with something along those lines without making it too WTF? for the non-fans. But they failed.
Won't disagree with the Deadpool assessment. How exactly do they plan on a Deadpool movie after that?!
My major problem though was that it felt like several movies sandwiched into one. Unlike the Xmovies, which managed to do ensemble well, this felt overladen, and as a result characters and story that deserved movies of their own got short shrift.
I was just happy to see naked Jackman on screen. *grin*
Yeah, I'm going to have to second you here re: the relationship between Vic and Logan. It's just another permutation of their possible relationship in the past. I'd buy it just as quickly as any other one, especially the "Logan is my dad" but they pulled for a few eps of Ultimates.
I haven't seen the film yet, but I always treat films and cartoons and shows like One Shot Limited Editions.
I do think I could have accepted the change in relationship as just another origin tale but thrown on the pile of everything else that drove me nuts about the movie I couldn't let it go.
Yeah. I think I stopped caring about comic book movies being any kind of good after Spiderman 2. Well, Spiderman 1. God, I hated that film. IM and The Incredible Hulk were so good last summer that I guess we were due for something shitty. Did Marvel's own studio put this out or was it a Fox production?
It also helps those involved with actually making the films were fans and fanboys themselves. Jon Favreau took great care in the script and tone as well as everyone who starred in IM. Edward Norton was almost like a Stalin-type authority onset with the integrity of The Hulk, since he's a LONG TIME fan of the book and character.
Yep the fanboys have taken over and are producing and directing the best adaptions. I think that love of the characters shows. Hopefully if there is a DP movie RR can exert that kind of influence.
While Hugh loves Wolverine - has said many time he owes his career to Wolvie. It as an actor who enjoys playing a character not as a fanboy and I think there's the difference
I think the best solution is to just watch I'm a Marvel/I'm a DC on YouTube and laugh about it all. Then patiently wait for a film that Marvel actually have control of instead of some major studio deciding integrity is a four letter word. ;-)
There was a story line where sabertooth messed with Wolverine by claiming to be his dad. And truthfully if that had been the only change in the canon, like wolverines height, I could have dealt with it.
But you know how it is - once the snowball started down the hill - everything becomes annoying even stuff that I would have given a pass too.
They wasted a lot of great characters but naked Wolverine at least made me forget i wasn't having a good time for a while
Yeah, I get that. Fair comments all, it's just the strength of your reaction shocked me a little. I guess I'd heard so much bad publicity that I was expecting it to be atrocious and when it was merely bad I was pleasantly surprised. *grin*
I went in without knowing it was being panned byt many people. After Ironman and the other movies last summer - my expectations were still high.
I fell hard when I realized that it wasn't going to live up to any of my expectations. The more I thought about how great it could have been the more frustrated I got.
I do admit that there were good parts and Gambit was cool. The beginning up until Wolvie walks away from the team was actually really good. I guess that's why I found the rest of it to be a mess.

Both IM and the new hulk were Marvel's and I think it showed. There was respect if not for canon then at least for the characters.
