I mentioned that hubby scored some free tickets to the preview of Tropic Thunder which opens on August 15th.
We thought it was hilarious!!! Four thumbs up!
To put this in perspective - we think that Dogdeball is one of the funniest movies ever but we are not fans of most of Ben Stiller's other movies.
From IMdB: Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.
Robert Downey Jr. Is a hoot. He's playing a guy who turns himself into a Black man and he never breaks character. I swear I forgot it was him. He's playing a 5 time oscar winner who becomes so immersed in hes character he has no real identity
There is minimal fart and juvenile jokes - mostly delivered by Jack Black.
As usual I find that Ben Stiller is the weakest part of the movie. he plays an aging action star who want to be taken as a serious actor but can find the emotion to deliver that realistic performance
The situations are just over the top but watching these actors pretend to be actors in a war movie the comedy is there without having to force it. There are in-jokes about the movie industry that had me cracking up. Tom Cruise is unrecognizable as an heartless studio head and he is just hilarious.
But the absolute best part of the movie are the fake trailers at the beginning. The one for RDJ's character is for a costume drama where his medieval Monk character comes to grips with being a homosexual. Who is the object of his affection? Another Monk played by Toby McGuire. Is it bad that the only thing I could think of was - Now everyone is going to write Ironman/Spider-man slash.
Bottom line - We all enjoyed it. The kids thought it was the funniest movie we'd seen this year - and that's saying something considering the number of Movies we've seen this year but I have to agree
