i apologize for any confusion. the article i was referring to has a very supportive stance on chavez, as do i. the article also pointed out what the opposition was saying against him. i bolded these statements because i wanted to point out the ridiculous and hypocritical accusations that are being said by our government and the wealthy who stand to loose oil profits and position. i realize that usually when the bush administration says "dictator" they really mean "democratically elected leader" and when they say "democracy" they really mean "corporate imperialistic neo-liberal puppet government dictatorship". when hugo chavez made it possible for low-income people in new york, boston, and chicago to acquire heavily-discounted gas to lower their heating bills, it prompted congress to investigate for antitrust infringement and suspicious political motivation, rather than investigate every other gas company blatantly involved in winter price-gouging in this country.
in short, i am keeping my eyes on south america. i think progressive systems and empowered (not entitled) people are starting to bring about revolution. this revolution isn't one based on violence. it's based on sustainability and responsibility toward the people.

while I'm also a fan of some of what Chavez does and a total fan of what he stands for, you should keep in mind that while he was originally democratically elected, he now rigs elections and jails those who oppose him (although he's still quite popular).
