My house is as hurricane-proofed as it's going to be. I put away my BBQ grill, all my yard tools and stupid stuff like empty plant pots and bird feeders - anything that would be likely to fly away if we do indeed get tropical storm (or worse) force winds, as is currently forecast. I brought a couple of the lighter lawn chairs into the house and ( Read more... )

It is already making its way up the East Coast of the U.S. It's due to hit my area full force between 8:00pm Saturday and 8:00am Sunday morning. If that holds true, I should have power at least until early tomorrow night. I'll be quite pleasantly surprised if my power stays on through this storm. I just hope that a power outage is the worst thing that'll happen.

Thankee! I hope I don't get blown away too. It would be fab if the worst we end up having to deal with is just some bad rain.

We went and got a couple of things yesterday before the storm hit. Almost no water to be had and there were people being told they had no flashlights or candles. Fortunately, with the exception of the lantern, we had the rest of the light sources if we need to use them. We also don't have too much in the fridge that'll go bad.

It also helps to have gas-powered stoves.

Yeah, PEPCO is so wonderful. "We're going to fuck up and we know it." Sigh! And your area almost seems to be guaranteed to lose power.
