Not bad for a Monday

Back when I was involved with Toastmasters and picking fights with sixty-year-old men on a regular basis, I would frequently come home frothing at the mouth with rage and rehash the debates in vivid colour to my long-suffering mom. And she would almost invariably tell me that I had to forgive them because of their age... That was just how men in that generation thought.

Contrary to that theory, allow me to share a quote from my wonderful sixty-something Evidence prof, explaining the Recent Complaint Provision, which wasn't repealed until the mid-1980s in Canada:

"If a women who had been sexually assaulted didn't come forward to file a complaint immediately, the judge would instruct the jury that this went against her credibility. The provision said that a women who had been assaulted would 'raise immediate hue and cry'. Because, my goodness, of course a bunch of old men sitting in a courtroom are the correct authority on how a woman who's been molested is properly supposed to respond."

In unrelated news, I have obtained curry so spicy that it brought tears to my eyes and was again randomly asked by a fellow student if my NaNo story had worked out. Today is a good day.

Fandomly speaking, I have seen the entire first season of Primeval now and have reached that delirious stage where I no longer have actual ships but kind of want to just smoosh them all together. :-D

humans are occasionally awesome, school, primeval
