Lovely fic... It makes sense that things wouldn't be all peaches-n-cream in Pete's World. That there would be struggles and failures and near failures and frustrations and all that. But the bedrock is them - The Doctor and Rose.
You captured that beautifully!

The Doctor closed his eyes at the thought, raking his fingers across his face and feeling the oh-so-human stubble beginning to grow across his chin. He paused, marveling at the odd sensation. He hadn’t yet gotten used to that ... he wasn’t sure he ever would.
-- I like the line of thought you have in this fic, beginning here, about all of the elements - physical and emotional - that this Doctor needs to adapt to/come terms with the limitations of.
He wanted to smile and reassure her, put on an easy grin, make a flippant remark or a joke - and then change the subject to anything else.

I had a feeling that you'd manage to pick out my favorite line in here - good to see my confidence wasn't misplaced haha! Also note the lack of a toaster-moment - he can fix it, but it's a moral thing not an ability thing! Ngl, I had our conversation in mind as I was writing that =)
