learned to build a cement quarter pipe !!!! so stoked. it was so rewarding to build something with your own hands! i mean, i craft out and make things sometimes but not structures. by the end of the project i was shaping the cement with my bare hands which you're not supposed to do cuz you'll get a slight chemical burn but it was no big deal, so worth it! the next day it had dried enough to skate a bit and it was so cool to suddenly have a skate park in the neighborhood! the quarter is really gnarly, gnarlier than i had in mind but probably just what brandon intended haha he'd said "there'll be a lil vert" ...the quarter is like 2.5 feet tall with another foot of vert at the top! gnar. i really can just skate the bottom so time to step up my game. a neighbor at the bus stop in front of the foundation was like "ohhh that's what you were building!" when he saw the skateboards. brandon was like "oh, you noticed us building it" and the neighb was like "everyone did!" hahaha at least there was no opposition... hopefully whoever owns the property doesn't get pissed if everyone's gonna know who's responsible :) the grocery store that used to be there was called the mercantile, it hasn't been there in like a decade i guess, but the bus stop is still labeled "the merc" on the schedules printed last fall so i think that's what we're gonna call the spot. lurk the merc! we're on the map!
oh man! also been skating the park in hoquiam lately and there's a great group of kids who skate there regularly, high school aged kids. two of em started learning to skate a month or so ago but wanted to have more people to skate with so they convinced their whole group of friends to start learning too!! sooo coool sooo legit! they are just constantly having fun and being creative with it and setting goals and it's so inspiring to have this sort of folks to skate with. i call em the hoq lokes :)
