Horatio was holding his breath under the water. Not for any reason related to daring acts of heroism or peril, but to see how many multiplication tables he could make it through before his lungs felt like bursting. Actually, there were two reasons, but Horatio kept the other reason well guarded. The secret reason was that as a seaman, Horatio was silently, desperately covetous of Fraser's excess lung capacity. They will stretch, he told himself for the hundredth time as he resurfaced.

Gasping for air, he gave Fraser an innocent smile and reached for the bar of soap in Fraser's hands.
