A new definition for boredom
Wow...another list....don't i suck? Anyway, to prove how much of a dork i truly am, i have gone over every single Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode and whittled it down to my favorite all time Top 20 Episodes....Fun, eh?
20 - "NORMAL AGAIN" Season 6, Episode 17....interestng twist episode where the trio (johnathon, andrew & warren) drug buffy into thinking all of sunnydale is a fantasy and that she's really locked into an asylum with both her parents still alive and together. at the end of the episode, they STILL tease the fact that it MIGHT really be a dream and that buffy summers is just some crazy girl locked away dreaming about being a superhero.
19 - "LIES MY PARENTS TOLD ME" Season 7, Episode 17....Nearing the final battle between the potential's and the first, giles and wood hatch a plan to distract buffy so they can kill spike. spike and wood fight and spike spares wood's life. buffy realizes whats going on, tells off giles for the first time ever and tells wood if spike gets a chance to kill him...she'll let him do it.
18 - "GRAVE" Season 6, Episode 22....Season 6 season finale. dark willow is intent on destroying the world since she's absorbed all of giles' white magic in addition to the black magic she was high on. buffy and dawn get stuck in a grave and have to claw their way out. at the last second, xander relies on his pure love of willow to stop her and all is happily ever after...until the next season of course.
17 - "PANGS" Season 4, Episode 8....Buffy desperately wants a nice, normal thanksgiving dinner with her friends, but of course she can't as indian spirits attack. a tied up spike gets shot by about half a dozen arrows since he cant get out of the way. after all is said and done, they settle down for dinner and let spike drink the turkey gravy since its blood based.
16 - "FOOL FOR LOVE" Season 5, Episode 7....Buffy gets beat and stabbed by a vampire and it scares her. she goes to spike to find out how he killed 2 previous slayers. he shows her and she then proceeds to belittle him which makes him shockingly, collapse and sob in the alley. this episode has my all time favorite ending to it. spike gets pissed and loads a shotgun to go to her house to kill her. as he arrives and prepares to kill her, he sees buffy on the backporch crying as she's found out her mother has brain cancer. spike puts the gun down and goes to sit by her and comfort her.
15 - "A NEW MAN" Season 4, Episode 12....Evil Ethan Rayne comes back into town and drugs Giles turning him into a Fyarl demon. the only one who knows its giles is spike who speaks fyarl. eventually buffy tries to kill him and stakes him, only to look into his eyes and realize its giles. she only recognized him because "no one can look so dissapointed in me" as he can.
14 - "CHOSEN" Season 7, Episode 22...Final episode ever. buffy, faith, giles, wood, xander, willow, spike, dawn, andrew, anya and the potentials go into battle with the first and his minions. angel gives buffy a medallion that can save them. she gives it to spike since he's her idea of a "champion". several potentials as well as anya are killed in the battle and wood is severely injured. spike sacrifices his life to destroy all the evil ones as the medallion blows everything up. the heroes escape on a school bus as all of sunnydale falls underground.
13 - "NIGHTMARES" Season 1, Episode 10....A little league coach beats one of the kids with a baseball bat and he goes into a coma. the boy then causes all of sunnydale to live their worst nightmares until buffy (as a nightmare vampire), figures out what happened and has the coach arrested.
12 - "VILLAINS" Season 6, Episode 20....warren shoots buffy and kills tara. she dies in willow's arms. thus the dawning of dark willow who goes apeshit and chases the trio down to kill them. buffy, anya, xander & dawn try to save them just so willow doesn't become a murderer. andrew & johnathan escape to mexico while willow traps warren, sews his lips shut, bores a slow motion bullet into his chest and skins him alive.
11 - "CONVERSATIONS WITH DEAD PEOPLE" Season 7, Episode 7....One of the more creepy episodes as ghosts pop up all over the place including dawn seeing her dead mom sprawled out on the couch just like buffy found her. all are manisfestions of the first evil trying to psyche out the good guys and it mostly works. meanwhile buffy is in the graveyard getting a shrink session with a psyche major vampire before finally staking him. he reveals before he dies (again) that it was spike who sired him meaning spike is feeding again.
10 - "THE GIFT" Season 5, Episode 22...Season 5 finale. glory/ben has kidnapped dawn and plans to drain her blood which would open the gates to glory/ben's hell dimension. as dawn is held prisoner on a scaffold guarded by doc. buffy arrives to slay him while giles murders glory while in his human persona of ben by smothering him. buffy saves dawn's life by sacrificing herself and plunging to her death which closes the dimension portals. show ends up on a close up of buffy's grave and headstone.
9 - "THE BODY" Season 5, Episode 16....Buffy's insufferable mother joyce dies suddenly on the couch of a brain aneurysm. buffy finds her after coming home from fighting warren's robot girlfriend. this is as dark an hour of network television has ever been. after many viewings its STILL painful to watch, especially after buffy breaks joyce's ribs with her slayer strength while doing cpr. powerful stuff.
8 - "RESTLESS" Season 4, Episode 22....Season 4 finale has buffy and the scoobies all having weird dreams inhabited by the first slayer...as well as some weird cheeseman. buffy manages to stand up to the first slayer and to wake up xander, willow, giles and tara. very surreal episode with tons of foreshadowing if you know what you look for, especially the Dawn references.
7 - "FEAR ITSELF" Season 4, Episode 4....Buffy halloween episode finds Oz bleeding over a pentagram that opens a portal to release a demon who terrorizes everyone at a halloween party prompting giles and anya to break into the house with a chainsaw to save everyone. after 45 minutes of scariness the demon appears...all 6 inches of him. and buffy steps on him.
6 - "DOPPELGANGLAND" Season 3, Episode 16....Vamp Willow is brought to Sunnydale by Anya and regular Willow when Anya tricks Willow into casting a spell. vamp willow tries to take over sunnydale until real willow tricks her and buffy stakes a bunch of vamps. instead of staking vamp willow, they feel sorry for her since its STILL willow, just evil, other dimensional willow and they send her back to her dimension...right before the scene in "The Wish" where Oz stakes her into dust.
5 - "PUPPET SHOW" Season 1, Episode 9....Another rather surreal episode as it focuses on sunnydales talent show. an evil demon is stealing brains and the blame falls on the sinister looking sid the dummy...but au contraire, sid is in fact, a demon hunter who saves the day by working with buffy to save giles from a beheading and to kill the demon. sid's work being done, he collapses dead after the demon dies.
4 - "ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING" Season 6, Episode 7....The all musical episode. It seems a demon is loose that makes everyone sing and dance to the point where they die. after everyone, including spike sings buffy saves the day but not before revealing, in song, what only spike knew...that when willow brought her back from the dead in season 6, she didnt save her from a hell dimension...she was ripped from heaven.
3 - "I WAS MADE TO LOVE YOU" Season 5, Episode 15....Warren has created a love-bot to answer his every whim, but he deserts her. april the robot travels across the country to find him and after injuring his real girlfriend katrina, tries to injure buffy. warren runs off and as april's batteries runs down indicating robot death, buffy sits with her and tells her it will all be ok so she wont "die" alone. meanwhile spike goes to warren's and orders him to make a love bot that will eventually become the Buffybot....and buffy returns home to find joyce dead on the couch.
2 - "HUSH" Season 4, Episode 10....with over half of the episode played totally silent, this was as much of a landmark episode as "once more with feeling". played totally pantomime as a string of demons called "the gentlemen" has stolen all of sunnydales voices, buffy must find a way to scream to make the gentlemen's heads explode...naturally they do.
BEST EPISODE EVER - "THE WISH" Season 3, Episode 9....Anyanka, a vengeance demon comes to sunnydale to grant wishes to scorned women. first up, cordelia who wishes buffy had never been born.....wish granted...cordy is sent to an alternate universe where vampires have taken over completely. willow and xander are vamps and the only "good guys" are giles (who came to sunnydale to wait for buffy, but buffy never came), oz and larry (the gay football player who was killed in Season 3, Episode 22). cordy is chased by vamps but saved by the makeshift scoobies. she tells giles about buffy and about her wish...giles starts doing research as vamp willow and vamp xander attack and kill cordy. the master runs the town and has angel in a jail chained like a dog where vamp willow cuts him up and tortures him. giles gets ahold of buffy's watcher in cleveland who relays the message to buffy. buffy arrives, all scarred up and VERY rogueish, even more than Faith. she goes to fight the master as oz, larry and angel fight the vamps. angel gets staked, buffy kills xander, the master snaps buffys neck and oz stakes willow. its brutal to watch pretty much all the regulars except giles and oz die in one episode. right after oz stakes willow giles smashes the amulet anyanka gave cordy therefore reversing the spell and turning anyanka into regular anya, a human with no powers. we go back to where cordy is making the wish....and since the amulet was smashed, it has no power now.
