Graduation and Gifts

Jun 19, 2007 10:01

My kid sister graduated primary school last weekend. Yay for her. No, really. Ya can't see my overly happy face. And ya sure can't hear the sarcastic tone of this whole opening. Because first of all, you can't hear writing unless you own one of those fancy software, and second, I didn't write this sarcastically :)

I am really proud of her. Sure, her maths grade is scarily...under average, but whose isn't? (Mine isn't!) (Shush, self!) And her science grade borders on the pass, (That, me too) (Ah, put a sock in it) but her English grade is awesome! Almost better than me at her age. And seeing how I ace most grammar tests anyone throws at me (heh) that's saying something.
I mean, well, I don't want to brag (with these grades, I don't have to), but one of my Uni's many entrance conditions was a TOEFL score of 500. Well, since readers of this blog is mostly, if not all, American, I'm not sure if you're familiar with it. Test of English as a Foreign Language? You don't need it :) Anyway, took the test and got 726. Overboard? Perhaps. Also required was an IELTS (International English Language Testing system) score of 6.5 for me to go abroad and obtain a degree from RMIT, and I got 7.5. Not much, but considering my peers got anywhere between 5 and 7, I'm fine with mine.
But, I'm here to talk about my kid sister. Her English is good, but she's more of a designer than a writer, though. She draws faces and figures, combining styles from all the manga she's reading. I guess she visualizes her imagination in drawing instead of writing like her big bro.

And thus comes the gifts part of this rant. My parents promised her an iPod. They hold true to their word and got her a 40GB iPod Nano. She asked my help to populate it with her favorite songs from my our PC and it's only about 130MB. I guess now she really understands the amount of stuff that tiny little thing can hold. Fer cryin' out loud, my first laptop's HD was only 20GB XD

...

How come I didn't get an iPod? Not that I need one. I don't move far from my PC at home anyway. And a 120GB hard disk can hold a whole lot of songs. And pictures. And movies. And hent...well, that part I'm not sharing with anyone.

Oh, dang it, time already? Gotta get back to...'work'. Heh. Stupid project.

Cheers,
SQ
