My irritation with twitter has reached a new high. A few days ago, Adobe Air offered an update which I did. Usually, it's not a problem. But this time the update made tweetdeck essentially inoperable I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything a couple of times to no avail.
I sent a support request to twitter that essentially told me where to find the download. Very helpful, that.
I detest using twitter on the web. I know it seems like a little thing, but I don't like flipping back and forth through my tabs to check updates, and once I get there, to flip over to direct messages. I liked how tweetdeck had columns where you could see everything at once.
So, I went looking for other desktop clients. The good ones for Mac are now in the Mac app store, which I can't access because I haven't update my OS software. But I don't have to update to one level; I have to update to two. Each update is $30. So that means I have to pay $60 in order to get a good, free desktop client for Mac.
Last night, I tried some other desktop clients that don't run on Adobe Air. Either they wouldn't load properly or I had to perform some kind of wizardry to get them to work at all.
Right now, I'm trying Yoono for Firefox. It's OK, I guess, but it doesn't automatically refresh and there are annoying little ads that can't be removed. Also, it's part of every web page I bring up, which is quite neat, but it doesn't automatically refresh itself. It always has to be done manually. I'd put up with the ads if it had automatic refresh. It also can take a long time to recognize any pending updates, up to 30 minutes. Oddly enough, the ads update frequently.
Twitter is the only site giving me problems, so I'm sure the issue lies with them. I've sent another support question, but I have no real hope for a definitive answer.
