The joys of living in a rural area include satellite internet. Not.
We're limited on bandwidth, which hasn't really been a problem (except for being hugely expensive) until my daughter arrived home two weeks ago. She brought with her a craving for "The Daily Show" which can only be satisfied by the internet, seeing as how we don't have cable.
Well, I certainly didn't mind her watching a bit of it, but I had no idea she was watching literally hours of it. That sent our bandwidth use soaring, and we're in danger of going over our limit which means means our download speed will slow to a crawl if we're not careful. That means no "Daily Show" snippets, no YouTube videos, no picture-heavy websites. We're pretty much able to check email, tweet a little bit and use livejournal sparingly.
You know, there is great internet demand among us country bumpkins. Almost every rural resident I know has some form of it and would love to have the same high-speed capability our citified neighbors enjoy. But if we want it out here, we're stuck with satellite and its limits.
Come on, techno people! If you really want to to make some money, you'll find a way to make high-speed, unlimited internet available to people who live in the sticks.
Now, where did I put my shoes? Oh, they're right here, next to my jugs of moonshine.
