school rant

Note to self: Don't rely on your partner to do the coding assignment if he's not a fabulous coder and you already know this. Doesn't matter that you were the one to code and hand in the first assignment (for a perfect score) cause you two didn't communicate, so it's only fair that he gets to do this one. Now the assignment is due in a few hours and ( Read more... )

It's not just engeneering majors who have to put up with group work. It's EVERYONE.

I had this English class a couple of semesters ago...the prof clearly didn't want to bother with grading papers, and even said this as an argument for the project...but anyway, she decided instead of papers (which I could do in my sleep and get an A on) she wanted us to design a board game...

We were randomly assigned partners. I got a married couple who worked a lot (this was a night class) and a chick who worked as a waitress. Well, L'il Miss Waitress didn't show up the first time we agreed to meet to discuss the project...and married couple was next to impossible to get in touch with, because they screened their phone calls. And they didn't show for the second meeting. So at least the married couple decided to show up at the first meeting and we agreed on a game and decided on a game plan. I guess I must not have communicated clearly, becuase the thing he did didn't work with what I was envisioning at all. Finally Waitress Girl calls me and says "Well, I've been trying to call!" she says she's been trying to call me on my cell, which is a bunch of bullshit, because I had her number plugged into my phone...and I would be told about missed calls had she actually called. But anyway...I still wound up doing most of the work. And it was two weeks' worth of work and aggravation as opposed to one night of work grading papers all because the teacher couldn't be arsed to read them??? I was SO SO SO glad that the class was overwith.

I do know that. I had group projects in both of my summer psych classes. It's just one of those things all engineering students rant about.

As for the project? Eek, many *hugs* for having to put up with that. I can sympathize with the profs desire to not read papers, but a big intensive group project for a night class shows a complete misunderstanding of the demographics of the average night class.
