Nino had always firmly believed that Valentines Day was one of the most pointless holidays of the year. All it led to was couples being sickeningly sweet together absolutely everywhere he looked. Even his own home wasn’t safe - the moment he turned on the TV all he could see was studios covered in gaudy pink and red hearts, and people working up the courage to confess to the person they were apparently madly and passionately in love with.

It was kind of ridiculous, Nino thought, that there had to be a day devoted to confessing or showing your partner affection; surely affection was something to be shown throughout the entire year. Not to mention, he had to put up with all his single friends complaining about how no one ever gave them chocolates or cards, and how their love lives were pathetic; Nino would always roll his eyes and point out that ‘he was single too, and none of them ever saw him whining about it’ - the usual response tended to be something along the lines of ‘yeah, but you don’t care’.

Truthfully, Nino probably disliked Valentines Day so much because he did care. Somewhere, deep down, he thought it might be nice to be part of one of those ridiculously adoring couples. He wasn’t though, so it was easier to pretend to not care; and maybe go to the bar and have a few drinks to make it even easier for him to not care - if he was drunk enough, he would probably forget that it was Valentine’s Day in the first place (and possibly even what Valentine’s Day was).

So Nino found himself sat on a bar stool, a half empty glass of beer in front of him, having an in depth conversation with the bar tender about pasta - he wasn’t really sure about how they had got on to the topic in the first place, but they had, and Nino couldn’t say he particularly minded.

Just as they were discussing the charms of spaghetti, a man slid onto the stool next to Nino’s and ordered a beer. Nino emptied his own glass, and the man next to him smiled before turning to the bartender again.
“Make that two beers.”

“You escaping the stupidity of Valentine’s Day as well?” Nino asked, returning the smile.
“Something like that.”
“Feel like joining our conversation about pasta?”
“Why not?”

A few hours later both Nino and the man had drunk a fairly impressive amount of beer between them, and were considerably more intoxicated than they had been before. At some point the topic of conversation had changed to public transport, and the bartender had left the discussion - the conversation he was having with some noticeably more sober customers had probably seemed more inviting.

After a few more emptied glasses, the bartender had decided that they were both drunk enough and stopped serving them any alcohol - once Nino had nearly fallen off the barstool about five times, they had been escorted outside and had a taxi hailed for them; it seemed as though Nino’s new friend was a regular at the bar, because the bartender had given the taxi driver an address (to which there had been a gleeful mumble of “HOME!” from the vicinity of Nino’s neck, where his new - still currently nameless, because they seemed to have forgotten about introductions - friend had buried his face for some unknown reason) and sent them on their way after paying and muttering something about ‘putting it on your tab’.

When the taxi slowed to a halt and the doors opened, they had both stumbled out, laughing over something completely nondescript - in reality, it was quite probable that neither of them even remembered what (assuming that there had been something to trigger it at all). When the laughter had died down - the taxi long gone - Nino had flung an arm around the other’s shoulders and they had swayed over to the door.
“So.” Nino had begun as the other man fumbled for his keys - he was positive they were in one of his pockets, he just couldn’t remember which pocket - “What’s your name?”
“Name?” the man replied distractedly, finally managing to retrieve the keys. “Oh, right. Name.”
“Yes, name.” Nino agreed, taking the keys after three failed attempts at getting them into the lock by the other man (“So close!” The man had said on the third attempt. “Just another centimetre and I would’ve had it!”)
“Ohno Satoshi.”
Nino had nodded, repeating the name a few times for good measure, as though he was getting the feel for it.
“I’m Ninomiya Kazunari.”

About five minutes later the door had finally been opened, and Nino and Ohno had tripped through the doorway, stopping to remove their shoes. Ohno had whispered “SHHH!” in a way that completely defeated the point of the warning, and Nino had replied in a loud voice “Make me.”

So Ohno had.

The thought had come from nowhere really; in Ohno’s mind at that moment in time, the only possible way of making Nino shut up had been with a kiss - that idea had probably had something to do with the alcohol, in retrospect.

Nino would’ve been lying if he’d said he minded. Ohno’s lips were soft against his, and Ohno’s tongue was sliding between his lips in a way that left Nino no room for protest - not that Nino wanted to protest, in fact, he had been hoping for something of the sort to happen ever since they’d been loaded into the taxi.

Ohno’s arms were strong around his waist, and as the other pushed him up against the nearest wall, Nino thought that Ohno was really surpassing his expectations. It hadn’t taken much persuasion to get Nino to kiss back, one of his arms curling around the back of Ohno’s neck to pull the other closer - not that it was physically possible for them to be much closer, but Nino was all for trying - and his other hand resting on a toned bicep for lack of anywhere else to go.

When the need for air became apparent they pulled apart, breathing heavily. Lust was overwhelmingly clear in their eyes as they regained their breath, and it didn’t take long for Ohno to lean down and press chaste kisses against the skin of Nino’s neck; Nino’s hands were already moving to unbutton Ohno’s shirt.
“Not here.” Ohno mumbled against the skin of Nino’s neck, as the other showed signs of removing the shirt that now hung open, exposing Ohno’s chest. Nino hummed his agreement, and Ohno pulled them away from the wall, his lips brushing against Nino’s again as he walked them towards the stairs.

It didn’t take them long to get to Ohno’s bedroom, despite a few drunken stumbles, and Nino found himself pushed against Ohno’s door the moment it was closed behind him. Clearly, Ohno had forgotten that the kiss had originally been a method of keeping Nino quiet, because Nino didn’t doubt for one moment that just in getting up the stairs they had made more noise than he had been before - the giggling had probably taken care of that much by itself.

Ohno’s shirt finally found its way off Ohno’s shoulders and onto the floor, and Nino’s followed soon after, being flung with enthusiasm to the other side of the room. After that the rest of their clothing disappeared fairly quickly, neither of them particularly feeling the need to draw out the foreplay for too long.

Ohno’s hands slid down Nino’s sides to rest on his hips as they kissed again, slowly but deeply, and Nino’s arms wrapped around Ohno’s neck, one of his hands moving up to tangle in the other’s hair. Nino couldn’t help letting a gasp escape him as Ohno rocked his hips forwards, and the older man took the sound as his cue to do it again.
“Bed.” Was all Nino managed to say before Ohno kissed him again, but it seemed to convey the message; Ohno wound his arms around Nino’s waist and carried him the few feet to the bed to dump him there unceremoniously, and then join him on it.

Ohno’s hands trailed across Nino’s skin, touching everywhere in sight; by this point Nino had forgotten to stay quiet entirely, as Ohno pressed open kisses against his shoulder, sucking just hard enough to leave a series of faint marks.
“Ohno,” Nino began, pausing for a sharp intake of breath as Ohno’s hand brushed along the inside of his thigh, “hurry up already.”

Ohno complied, pulling away from Nino to pull open his bedside drawer and grope around for the lube and condoms he was sure were in there.
“You’re taking too long.” Nino sat up to nudge Ohno in the side - probably, this was meant as a tactic to get Ohno to hurry up, but in reality all it did was make Ohno squirm a little and mumble something about being ticklish.

Before long, Nino was lying back on the bed again, hands gripping the sheets tightly as the other prepared him. “Ohno, enough.” Nino said when he felt the other was being a little too thorough; Nino was extremely aroused, and drunk, and more than ready for Ohno to just fuck him already - he wasn’t adverse to a little bit of pain.

Finally - after a few moments of getting into a more comfortable position - Ohno thrust into him, and Nino gasped sharply, his fingers gripping Ohno’s shoulder’s tightly as the other set up a slow, easy rhythm. It didn’t take Nino long to adjust to the feeling, and begin to urge Ohno to go faster, harder, deeper, whatever as long as it was more.

“Shit,” Nino gasped, barely suppressing a moan as Ohno angled his thrusts a little to the left, “there.” Ohno did as he was told, his hands gripping Nino’s hips hard enough to leave marks as he continued to push, maintaining the steady rhythm.

It didn’t take that much longer for Nino to shakily announce that he was close, and soon after his back was arching up off the bed and his hands were gripping Ohno’s arms hard as he found release, a gasp punctuating the moment..

Ohno’s thrusts became faster, sharper, and he lost all the sense of rhythm that he’d previously had as he found himself wavering on the edge. It only took a few more thrusts to send him over with a sharp intake of breath.

“Ohno, get off.” Was the first thing Nino said, after a few moments of the two of them regaining their breath.
“Oh, right. Sorry.” Ohno shifted to lie down next to Nino with a yawn.

By the time Ohno had thrown the used condom in the general direction of his bin and pulled the covers over the two of them, Nino was already asleep; it didn’t take more than three seconds for Ohno to join him.

When Ohno woke up his head felt like it was in the process of splitting in half, and there was a man in his bed. A man who was very close, with his head buried in the crook of Ohno’s neck, and who was extremely naked. It was at that moment that Ohno realised he was extremely naked as well, and that the man was probably so close because Ohno’s arms happened to be wrapped around him, holding him there.

After a few moments of trying to ignore the hangover from hell and remember what on earth had happened the night before, something clicked in Ohno’s mind. ‘Oh, right. He’s Nino.’

And with that thought Ohno did what any person in his position would do; he crawled out of bed, careful not to disturb Nino, pulled on a pair of boxers, cleaned himself up and went downstairs to find some painkillers.

When he got downstairs his mother was sitting at the kitchen table, a knowing smile on her face. Ohno mumbled something that sounded like a mixture of ‘Good morning’ and ‘It hurts’, and his mother gestured towards a glass of water and packet of painkillers she’d put out ready on the table.

Ohno eased himself onto the seat opposite his mother, muttering his words of thanks before popping a couple of the pills and taking them. The knowing smile was still on his mother’s face, a hint of amusement in it as she watched.
“Busy night, Satoshi?” She asked - the amusement clear in her voice.
Ohno grunted his agreement, sipping the water slowly.
“You should probably take him some painkillers too.”
Ohno choked on his mouthful of water, just barely managing to stop himself from spitting it across the table. His mother just laughed quietly.

Nino opened his eyes groggily, letting out a groan as he was greeted by his inevitable hangover. It vaguely registered in his mind that he was naked beneath the sheets, and that he felt an uncomfortable stickiness on his stomach; these thoughts were quickly forgotten, however, as he realised the presence of someone else in the room.
“Here, you might want this.” Nino glanced towards the source of the voice, taking a few moments to process that the person standing next to the bed, holding a glass of water in one hand and some painkillers in the other, was the guy from the bar the night before.

Nino sat up to take the pills, and Ohno sat on the edge of the bed next to him.
“How much of last night do you remember?” Ohno asked - a hint of curiosity in his voice. “You had more to drink than I did.”
Nino thought for a moment, giving his clouded mind some time to piece together the scraps of memory. “You’re Ohno.” He said, thinking for a few more moments before his eyes widened in recollection. “Oh.”
“Yeah.”
They were silent for a few more moments before Ohno spoke again.
“You okay?”
“Not really. My head hurts like hell, and I’m generally kind of sore.”
“Well, I guess that makes sense.” Ohno surveyed Nino once more, and deduced that the other would probably not be going anywhere anytime soon in that state. “Maybe you should go back to sleep for a while.”
Nino grunted his approval at the idea, handing Ohno the glass of water before sliding down under the covers again.
“Oh, mum asked me to tell you that she’s making breakfast, and that you’re welcome to have some. And you can borrow some of my clothes if you want to.”
The sleepy hum Nino gave in reply was a mixture of agreement and thanks as he slipped back into sleep again.

When he woke up for a second time, Nino’s head didn’t hurt quite so much - thanks to the painkillers, he supposed - and he was alone in the room. He tentatively slid out of Ohno’s bed, reaching for some tissues on the bedside table to wipe away the sticky mess that clung to his skin before going to retrieve his clothing, which was scattered across the room. One sniff of his shirt made him grimace and discard it again; it stank of cigarettes and alcohol, as should probably be expected after spending the evening in a bar, and Nino had no particular wish to walk around smelling like that.

He groggily stumbled over to Ohno’s closet and opened it to grab a random selection of clothes; making sure clothes matched was the least of his worries at that particular moment in time - although he did make the extra effort to find a matching pair of socks.

When he finally left the room he could hear the sound of the shower running - Ohno, he supposed - and he could smell cooking from downstairs. Slowly, he made his way towards the scent, and was greeted by the sight of a woman who looked quite a bit like the man he had just spent the night with; ‘Ohno’s mother then.’ Nino deduced, announcing his arrival with what he hoped was a friendly “Good Morning.”

Ohno’s mother smiled and gestured for him to sit down at the table.
“How are you feeling?”
“Been better.” Nino admitted, running a hand through his hair in an attempt to make it look more presentable. “The painkillers helped though.”
“Oh good.” Ohno’s mother smiled again, pouring him a cup of tea and setting it down in front of him. “Satoshi’s in the shower, by the way. He should be out soon.”
Nino nodded in understanding, watching as Ohno’s mother served him some rice and miso soup.
“So, we haven’t met before, have we? How long have you known Satoshi?”
Nino could tell from the look in the woman’s eyes that she knew exactly how long him and Ohno had known each other - clearly, Ohno didn’t do this kind of thing very often (neither did Nino, for that matter) and his mother was going to tease him about it as much as possible. “Oh, not very long.” He finally answered, mumbling a quick ‘Itadakimasu’ before eating a mouthful of rice.
“Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve heard Satoshi mention you before this morning.” Ohno’s mother sat down on the seat opposite Nino’s with a cup of tea of her own.
“Well, it’s really not been very long.”
Ohno’s mother smiled sweetly, as if daring him to say it; Nino took the challenge. “We met yesterday, actually.”

When Ohno finally finished in the shower and made his way downstairs, his mother and Nino seemed to be getting on well.
“Satoshi, did Nino-kun tell you that he’s a composer?”
Ohno sat down next to Nino and the other man smiled. “No, he didn’t.”
“I’m a composer.” Nino stated helpfully.
“Yes, he did.” Ohno smiled, and Nino laughed quietly; probably, Nino thought, it wasn’t normal to stay and have breakfast (or was it lunch? He hadn’t bothered to check the time after he’d woken up) the morning after a drunken one night stand - not when it was breakfast with the other person’s mother, anyway. But then again, Ohno didn’t seem as though he tended to do everything normally.

“I’m an artist.” Ohno added; Nino hadn’t missed the small amount of prompting that Ohno’s mother had given - clearly Ohno wasn’t an expert in conversational techniques.
“Satoshi, How about you show Nino-kun your studio? I can clean up here.”

That had been an obvious bit of matchmaking if Nino had ever seen it.

Nino followed Ohno into a room at the back of the house, which had walls covered in drawings and paintings, and every surface hidden by some sort of art material; for all its messiness, Nino noticed that the room was actually fairly organised - everything seemed to have its own specific place.
“I finished that one yesterday.” Ohno said, pointing to a picture hung to the right of the desk.
“What is it?”
Ohno shrugged, and Nino walked a little closer to take a better look. “It’s just what was in my head at the time.”
Nino nodded. “I like it.”

They walked around the room, Nino looking at all the different pieces of art, with Ohno giving a brief explanation of them all.
“Can I ask you something?”
Nino turned to face Ohno as the other spoke, giving the other a small smile. “Feel free.”
“Last night.”
“Yeah?”
“Does that have to be a one night stand?”
“That depends. Can I go and have a shower when we’re done in here?”
“If you want to.”
“Good. And no, it doesn’t have to be a one night stand.”
“Okay.” Ohno smiled. “Want to stay over tonight?”
“What, like a two night stand?”
“No. Like dating.”
Nino smiled. “Sure, why not.”

The rest of that day was spent playing Wii sports against Ohno’s mother and sister; Ohno and Nino won. After that, Nino ended up staying at Ohno’s for another three days - mostly because of Ohno’s mother, who appeared to have fallen in love with him (“He’s an actual opponent when it comes to gaming. And he helps me with the cooking; Satoshi, if you break up with him I’ll never forgive you.”)

After a few months, Nino had all but moved in; Ohno had begun to suspect that had been his mother’s plan from the very beginning.
