(Meta) In Chronological Order...

Nov 06, 2009 14:16

Most of my 'Buffy' fic is post-TV series. Some of it is pre-series (and some of that is way, WAY pre-series); and a very small amount is during-series. So, inspired by angeariawondering whether to catalogue her fic into chronological order, I decided as an exercise to see if I could put all of mine into sequence. The challenging part, of course, is that ( Read more... )

Thanks! Though a lot of them are only drabbles...

How The Heroes Die

'How The Heroes Die' is the one I think is moy own cpersonal canon, but I do like the writing of 'Once And Future'. I can only apologise for the other one. :-)

Oh, and 'On The Whispering Wind' also concerns Buffy's death, but it's about what happened to her after she died in 'The Gift'.

This list makes me happy. :D

And I'm impressed at your range of fiction in terms of time period.

Wow. I wish I could find the inspiration to write that much Buffy fic. How long have you been at it?

Just realized I've never written a Buffy story set earlier than the season 5/6 interval ("To Live In It"). That's about to change, though, as my next one moves back and forth from 1934 to sometime in season 5.

I don't think I've ever given a cameo to a real-life person in any of my stories, Buffy or otherwise. Which is probably for the best.

Since 16 October 2006, according to my fanfic index. :-) I think the first cameo I created was Gavrilo Princip.

Whoa. That's a lot of fic.

Somehow, I think I'm far too lazy to order mine like that.

And finally, a question; who's the most obscure real-life person you've given a cameo in one of your fics?

I...actually don't have RL cameos in my fics...

Well, most of them are drabbles. I don't usually count them when I talk about my fic, but for a list like this, they help to add variety - and some of them, like the ones about Hiywan, were important for sparking off ideas that would later develop into full-scale stories.

But in total, I doubt that the amount of fic I've written would be much more than 100,000 words over three years - and some people write more than that in a single multi-chapter fic.

(You know... if you added links to the story titles, it'd be an incredibly useful fic list...

...I'm just saying.)

It would also have taken about four times longer to put together - and it already took several hours - which is why I briefly considered the option, then decided to add the last line about my fic index instead. Sorry. :-(

I imagine it did take a long time to order it all.

I started with the cut-and-paste text from my fic index - which I had to update anyway - edited it down, then started pasting things under the right headings. Then puzzled over the ones which didn't quite fit together.

It was interesting to see how it all took shape, and how most of it is coherent even though I didn't write it to form a single continuity. (Though more recently I have started adding in little snippets into fics to link them to others I've written, like the ending of 'What Can Change The Nature Of A Man?' having a line through in to foreshadow the Willow/Saga Vasuki/Kennedy fics I wrote earlier.)

If I'd left out the drabbles, I think there'd have been far fewer fics taking place during the series.
